Anyone else office getting told they are getting flagged too many times (excessive back up acceleration or braking)

Has anyone else had this issue? Our office got a big ole safety talk from our steward saying our district is watching us and that.

Well issue we find is several things.

#1 There is ZERO consistency in the excessive backing up.

Perfect example. 2 weeks ago, I had to back up of driveway on Thursday and Saturday. Both driveways are very similar length. I got flagged for one but not the other.

#2 Define excessive acceleration & deceleration?

They claim it is gaining 20 mph in XXXX ft which they won't define. Several of the places where people got flagged for this are impossible to get either but they have flagged us. One of our carrier got flagged for excessive acceleration going around a corner.

None of us are worried but it is getting super annoying.

ALSO THIS QUESTION

What's the most sampling request you have gotten in a day?

Couple days ago, I got 5 of them. 3 of them within 20 minutes of each other.

All -- "Anyone else office getting told they are getting flagged too many times (excessive back up acceleration or braking)."

-- As usual, ask for SPECIFIC dates and locations.

-- And ask if the info is strictly based upon scanner input.

-- Apparently the NRLCA has yet to inform the USPS that discipline based solely upon scanner input is not acceptable -- like the NALC.

Tell your steward to look at the report.

There's a dropdown menu for action taken. The options start with official job discussion and end with termination.

I'd suggest anyone getting a talk, recite your Weingarten rights. And just from experience, after about 2 weeks, management gave up.

We have looked at reports and just laughed because 90% of the backing up excessive are turn around points. The rest were places where we got forced into it (I.E Car parked in the turn around or something like that)

What our steward told us from his person was that if we had to back up out of driveway due to someone blocking we were suppose to leave 3849. I laughed at this because of this situation I had. So I pulled into driveway and see car in turn around but everyone is outside. I'm sure leaving a notice would look great there.

None of us are worried about it but they are just being stupid about it.

If you back up at less than 5 MPH, I don’t think it pings you, can’t tell if walking or driving.
They pull those #s off a report every morning and it is from the scanner data, but @Morty is right, usually drop it in a week or two. Just the new flavor of the day of criticism cause, you know, you might enjoy working if they were nice to you...

*from other carriers ive talked to who comply with managements ridiculousness. They will continue to harass you, you need to push back. They do it every day? Grieve for a new duty. Recite your Weingarten. Make them give up.

I was told a carrier in a neighboring office retired because they were sick of the daily harassment of the scanner.

It don't need to be this way, push back!

Rather than develop scanner capabilities that HELP us get the mail delivered.... like a useable lookahead function, or alerts for parcel delivery locations, etc.... they've sunk time and money in nonsense like, sitting still reports, backing, acceleration, etc., etc.... all they're interested in is doling out harassment, and trying to justify their unneeded existence.... just realize what it's all about....

We went through this about 2 years ago and it lasted all of about a week

I've never been spoken to about my backing or acceleration/deceleration.

As a point of interest, I do shake my scammer, (Hymie,) like a maracas when I back up over 30 feet.

I got a SPM (scan request) at a high traffic area on a curve without a full shoulder. (What this location lacks in shoulder distance it makes up for in depth of a huge ditch. It made me want to ask the new PMG if he was going to address this stupidity. They're putting my life in danger for a task that can be completed IN THE OFFICE.

Yep we get these reports a lot. Fortunately, I haven’t been hit on one in a long time. But I wanted to add that if they talk to you about an excessive backing/acceleration/deceleration, you need to write down the number of minutes in the remarks column of the 4240 and get paid 8127 time.

Oh yes I get the SPMs all the time. In fact almost 3-5 every day. So annoying; they break up my delivery rhythm lol!

What are those SPM's for anyway?

All -- For anyone getting called out for excessive braking, trying asking manglement:

- "What are your suggestions?"

- Hitting the brakes to avoid hitting something or someone, or avoid hard braking and hit something or someone?
- Your choice!

They are Service Performance Measurements to track how long it takes a mail piece to travel from it’s origination to destination. It reflects nothing on the mail carrier and is just collecting statistical data that can be used for all sorts of things.
So yeeaahhhh, a pain in our azzes.....

I have discovered tho, the sooner in the day you actually do them, the sooner they stop coming in. A few years ago, our pm told us, “they’re only trying to get 2 per day”... I was on a small aux route back then....
Fast forward to today.... I’m on a K43 route, and really don’t have time for spm requests....
But, over the past year, I’ve discovered.....
I used to be like “once my hand is out my door with mail in my hand to open the box”, this is when spm hit me, my attitude was “I’m already passed the box”, I’m not pulling mail back in to scan it. “Already passed”.... but, over time, I’ve discovered, if you click “already passed” you’ll probably get several more spm requests throughout the day. So I’ve experimented with it several times. When you actually do the spms early, they’re done. But when you click “already passsed”, you get hit with more throughout the day....... so now, unlesss mail is actually in the box, illl pulll my handfull of mail back in and actually scan it to shut that damn spm notice up.."..... I’ve noticed it works..."
