Dps to the street and parcel marking

Put a digit on your markers, 0 to 9. Then keep your markers in 10 piles, one for each digit. Use a marker that corresponds to the last digit of the house number.

For instance, 302 Somehwere Ln would get a "2" marker. 1179 Elm St. Would get a "9" marker. That should eliminate most of the ambiguity.

Make a laminated sheet ala @flash

Just put them in order and remember the next one. :)

Good Luck!

Yes, my "list" is more for a new carrier to use until they're really familiar with the route, or if an RCA has many routes to carry, or parcel subs.

If you add the first and last address of each street on the list, it would be invaluable tool to teach incoming RCA. You wouldn’t be putting their head on a swivel.

Buy cheap 8x11 colored cardstock/heavy paper at hobby store. Cut into about 2.5 in strips.
Use one color for boxes, another for spurs, etc to denote what they are in your head.
Jot a partial address #, name, hint that will tell you where it goes. Case the marker, when you pull down, if there are lots of skips, you've got a reminder jotted on marker.
These can be scratched out and re-used for months.

For insane package days use a marker to either highlight address on box itself, or jot a 1-6 on box, indicating where house is on case. 1 is early, 6 is late.

Bottom line?

I've used lists, cards, sections, all of them, and there is no "right" or "wrong" way. Some work better for one carrier, and not for another. Find the system that works best for YOU and is time efficient. Don't be afraid to try different systems, maybe on a slower day. I've had a couple of carriers in each office I've worked in that were well suited to our craft, and I learned many new and different things from them. Different systems work with different routes, also.

Kudos to you for asking for advice to start with. That's how you learn, improve your skills, trim your times.

Good luck.

There are lots of empty cells - kinda confusing out on the street - who gets the parcel?
Some write lists instead of parcel marking
Any other suggestions?
Thought about markers in the dps since I have less skipping of customers - anyone try this ?
Lots of our subs use the truck load scan option. Apparently it tells you exact order to place parcels. Then just out them in order. OR if you are on same route for a while, learn to just line your parcels in order and then case spurs or line them in trey. Will save a lot of time on the long run. I don't mark anything and you'd be surprised how you learn to remember everything.

Don't mark parcels, take DPS to street, saves so much time and extra work. When you load you should be able to fit all the packages of the top row of the case up front with you, using side door/floor/on top of mail on tray if need be. You don't have to remember anything, just your next one

Yes. Besides load function announcing what section the parcel is in, the scanner will also have the sequence number for the parcel on the screen. ie: # 202, then #453,etc...

For me, I always marked parcels and never take DPS to the street when I first started. Once I got use to the route, I do the following now.

Depending on what I drive whether POV or LLV tells me what I do with DPS & packages.

POV: I have 2 cars 95 Lesabre & 88 Delta 88. What I do with packages is make small tray of packages on the driver's floor (half tray with small packages in order) and then I start from passenger (side I sit on when I drive) over to driver's side, I stack packages up 2-4 high or however high in order so all I have to do is when I get out is grab and go basically.

LLV: I put small packages in a long tray on the tray holder and the packages I put in order starting next to my drivers sit and back left to right.

DPS wise

LLV: Sometimes I take it out, other times if there are little to no flats, I will finger through the mail in the tray and put flats in while turning the mail (first mailbox goes vertical then their flat, and then 2nd box goes horizontal with their flat behind that)

POV: I finger the DPS in the tray, and put 1st mailbox vertical with flat behind it, then the 2nd box is horizontal with flat behind it and so on til the end.

I have learned that these ways work the best for me.

Similar to me. Nice to have options.

All these ideas sound workable but how do you handle the boxes that are the size of a small dorm refrigerator, and the 2 boxes of 6 ft long tiki torches, and several boxes of energy drinks from Market Pantry in a POV and they all arrive on the same day? You just have to remember who got what and stack like a layer cake with the packages you need later in the day. Some days work out better than others.

When your avg 280-330 scans daily, I just I don’t mark anything. I just don’t have the time. I case up and tray up smallies in route order, I load the truck in zones like the load feature in the scanner and rotate thing around as I deliver. Had an old timer way back who never marked anything. I thought she was crazy. She says by the time you put the parcel in your vehicle you’ve touch 3x, you should know what you have. Believe me! Once you stop marking, you’ll never go back marking!
