No packages in mailbox

A customer on my route wants all packages taken to the door even if they fit in the mailbox. I did this for a few months because the previous carrier did it. Well, considering all the long days I'm putting in, I would rather not. I put a package in their box and they were upset. They want me to write up everything for pick up at the office now. But writing up packages might take just as much time as taking it to the door ?. ? What do you think?

I would write them up, it has to be quicker than to the door service. If something happens and you are where you should not be, guess who is in trouble !!

It seems to me they are in a power game here. I'd leave the stuff at PO, scan there, etc.

Somehow, I don't feel they're so special in comparison with all your other customers.
They want their own rules.
If it fits in the box, that's where I would put it.
If ordered by PM to do as they request, get it in writing.

I was told that card file was obsolete with the start of DPS and what is now called the Edit Book. (At first, the Edit Book was called something else, but that term was deemed racially insensitive.)

Many carriers have never seen the customer card, but you're right, that was an option.
So, if the customer gives you that instruction in writing, perhaps it is fine to merely notify all, and leave them in the office. :unsure:

I use those cards sometimes when peeps keep giving back mail saying so and so doesn't live here.... okay, so tell me who DOES live here....

Since the option was listed on the delivery instruction card, I just assumed that was a valid option, card or no card....

I also am a believer in the, this ain't Burger King philosophy.... you get it OUR way, or you don't get the.... :oops:?‍♂️?

Oversized Parcels 331.21 Attract Customer to Box If a parcel is too large for the box, make a reasonable effort to attract the customer to the box to receive the parcel. Do this by sounding the horn or by hailing the customer. If unsuccessful, you must deliver parcels to any residence or business that is on the line of travel, or within one-half mile of the route and has a passable road leading to it. You are required to dismount to effect delivery if there is no response to your efforts to have the customer come to the vehicle, or if the customer requests that you do so. In multi-tenant buildings, make every effort to deliver parcels to customers using existing building notification procedures.

It would appear that only the "oversized / too big for box " are the only parcels for which we are required to go to the door.

For peeps who want no parcels in the box, I blow the horn at the box.... if they don't come out, I leave a slip for them to pickup at PO.... I don't go to the door.... :unsure:
 
You opened a can of worms by delivering to the door for a period of time. Parcels that fit in the box are supposed to be delivered to the box. Now that you are tired of doing what you had been doing, customer is going to try to cause a ruckus because you want to do things the correct way----should never have started special service in the first place.
 
i'd deliver what i could to the mailbox, and if it doesn't fit, take them to the door. the 603 gives us these directions. if the customer doesn't like it, to bad. your pm should back you on this, and i'd greive it if they don't. let the customer decide if they want to rent a po box. i can only imagine that they all ready have the smallest mailbox that you can get?
 
Carriers seem to forget that the shippers are our actual customers, as they are the ones who pay for our services
Shippers are USPS customers. The people are my customers. Shippers don't pay enough to usps because clerk's don't have to label and ask questions
USPS chooses to not pay rurals for free door service with a smile and a little bit of backbone with each over sized parcel that would not be accepted by a clerk. Oversized was ups territory. No more. I have not forgotten the mail is what I used to push .happily
