Info from my Retirement Application

I will keep you posted, here is the copy of the letter I received maybe you can decipher it?View attachment 4397

I called the local social security office this morning and the agent admitted the letter is confusing and doesn't understand why they word it that way.

What it means is even though I am eligble and approved to receive benefits I will not receive anything for September just like it says, but I will be eligible starting in October, payable in November and for me it will be the 4th Wednesday of every month. So nothing until the end of November.

I haven't heard anything from HRSSC since I got a confirmation email in June. So I called just to make sure I didn't miss a call in case their was a problem with my application. I asked when I would get a Form 50 (Notice of Separation) and she said it may arrive a week or two after you retire, lol.

So I guess I just stop showing up even though I have nothing officially saying I'm retired.

USPS is broken from top to bottom. "JUST LET ME OUT!!"

The automated line keeps asking for your EIN and PIN number. It will say you entered a incorrect EIN, even though you entered the correct EIN. It will also ask for a PIN, which I never used. After doing this twice, without a PIN, it will let you continue.

Here is the website to change your pin: SSP Sign In

I don't know if this makes any difference on a broken system, but it might save you a little frustration.

Download everything you want from your eOPF on LiteBlue before your end date... from what I've heard, that's one thing they seem to be prompt in unplugging you from.... go figure... 🤷‍♂️

Yes, she said after your retirement date you will be removed and won't be able to access anything USPS. So I'll have to depend on getting the Form 50 via the mail since I won't be able to access eOPF.

I filled out the PDF forms too. How did you get the certified summary of federal benefits form filled out? I have everything ready to go except that.
It worked just like all the others, I wasn't in the military so most of it didn't apply to me. Are you using Adobe Acrobat Reader DC?

With 8 days to go until my official date 8/28. I'm already locked out of the system. I wonder if I'll get my last paycheck? I figured I wouldn't get locked until until my last day or the week after. I'm guessing I can't call out sick to use the four days, so I guess ill just write in on my timesheet.

I'm out, last day was Saturday. A nice 229 scan going away party courtesy of Amazon. So good to be free again, forgot what it was like. God bless you all that hate the job and want to get out, hope you get a break in life and can escape soon.

Life is short and not worth missing spending time with family, watching your kids grow up, etc.

BTW, never hated the job at all except for the last 5-6 years (Amazon era).

A little info for those thinking about retiring in the near future.

Greetings Future Retiree,

This acknowledges receipt of your Retirement application. Please do not "reply" to this email.

  • If you are contacted by HRSSC please respond immediately as the required/needed information will impact the successful processing of your retirement application.
  • Once your Retirement application has been processed, you will receive a letter of confirmation and a separation Form 50.
  • The HRSSC forwards your Retirement application to the Eagan Accounting Service Center (ASC)
  • After your Retirement date, the ASC Retirement Unit forwards your Retirement application to the Office of Personnel Management (OPM)
  • You will receive a letter from Eagan confirming your Retirement application and records were sent to OPM
Upon Retirement, OPM will become your new agency and will send you an acknowledgement letter with your Retirement claim number that will begin with the letters CSA (Civil Service Annuity). This number replaces your EIN and is very important because you must refer to it any time you call or write OPM with questions regarding your Retirement. You should not attempt to contact OPM before you receive your CSA number.

HRSSC processes applications in the order of your Retirement effective date. We do not process the paperwork on a first come basis.
Im sorry..are you talking about the supplemental bridge payment?

I'm not in as good as financial shape as I would like, but everything is paid off but house. I will get a check for my unused annual leave to help bridge the gap. I would have retired no matter what, even if I had to file bankruptcy or whatever I had to do.

Thanks and hope you can get out soon.

Keep an eye out for any correspondence from OPM (welcome letter, retirement card with CSA#). You'll need these to set up your online account with OPM which you'll want to do within 30 days or your temporary password will expire. If for whatever reason you can't get into OPM online you will have to try to call them which is an exercise in futility. Due to high call volumes and staff shortages, you will get a busy signal all day during office hours and then after hours get a message to call back during office hours o_O Yeah it's a crap show down there.
