What happens under RRECS if a route has no regular?

So a route at my office recently lost its regular. It’s unknown if this person will ever even come back. In the mean time RCA’s and whoever else is available will have to do it. Mind you we barely have enough RCA’s as it is.

So what happens to a routes evaluation under RRECS if there’s no regular who has any “skin in the game”? An RCA who won’t make regular for years could mess up the routes eval without worry. Or a lazy supervisor or an annoyed PM who just doesn’t feel like doing the scans. Or if they use a city carrier (which apparently is allowed) however the city carriers aren’t trained on RRECS (not that we are).

And say I decide months down the line that I want to bid on that route. Will I have to wait 6months - year to get paid correctly?

It probably will suffer and when someone does get it. They will have to clean up the mess for 6-12 months. Which is huge since the nrlca seems to think a 15 year apprenticeship and poverty wages is perfectly acceptable.

I know an office that has 3 vacant routes, no subs. PTFs posted several times, no takers. No one wants the routes. You can work at home depot for $24/hr here, why work 14 hour days, and get paid 8.67 as an apprentice regular that has to grind at poverty wages for 14 years?

City carriers are never contractually permitted to run a rural route. If management runs out of local rural leave replacements, and they can't borrow one from another office, a manager is the only qualified option under Article 1.6, 3(f), and 30.2.D.6.

yep

I am retiring (date was set a couple of years ago) late summer, before all of RRECS kicks in. As I do care about who will have the route after me, I am using every scan I can legitimately use every day. I am not coasting to retirement by doing the bare minimum. I was proud to be part of this craft and want those who follow me to actually get credit for what we do every day. While I don't think RRECS is a great system for figuring our pay, it is what we have and need to work it as much to our advantage as we can.

I think we need to grieve every time anyone not trained on Rrecs touches rural mail, not just in the street, but office scans for box holders and loading in particular matter. As it is, a one page handout counts as training but I only consider that a cover sheet for comprehension training that is a pre-requisite to correct pay.

The problem is determining reasonable measurement of harm and remedy.
Actually, the one page handout was not the mutually agreed upon training.

Just food for thought, but most popular board games with fairly simple rule sets a d despite edge cases not covered, are longer than the “other” handout.

For a simple game of no material consequence in reality to have longer instructions and typically requires more clarification than we have been afforded tells you the priority here. Monopoly was my first thought….
Excellent argument in front of an arbitrator. Bill Peer worthy comment!

Supervisor and PM running route in my area-none are doing the RRECS scans

Sounds VERY familiar...in my area as well-along with subs....What can we do-nothing! We cannot prove they scanned any RRECS scans nor even scanned in on our route...maybe can a time or two BUT it will get old and NOBODY has the patience nor time to deal with these issues ongoing day after day after day....SAD SAD SAD!!!!

This. Kudos to you, Dakota.

In our office, the subs split a route or 2 at least, every single day. Management brings a city carrier over to cover at least a few times a week. So, should I be the one to grieve that when the RCA's are already working 60 hours a week? How do you think that would go over?

Should I run around and inform all of these already overburdened people what they should be doing to keep route evaluations up? It was different when there were set mail counts - everyone is doing the same thing and it was a limited time frame. Its not going down like that now. You can't expect year round vigilance, especially when they are permanently under duress. What happens if they log in on your route and don't bother doing a loading time. There's no accountability, so, we're just hoping your sub for the day will do a decent load and pm time plus input boxholders and the other scans.

We wish.....we have 3 routes out of six where the regulars are out. Not a day goes by where we don't have at least 1 cca from another office running a route for us. There are no available rcas within 50 miles. Our oic has a "bad back" and our pm has vaporized. A clerk ran a route last week. That's how it is in Amazon heavy offices. We pray for relief from rrecs, if ever implemented

Relief will only come if people properly trained RRECSand who have an investment in their work do the route consistantly. I'm amazed the union has zero safeguards on this matter, except a 'well it'll take the averages but NO you can't see the data lol yeah we're totally not screwing you over wink wink'
