Lite duty on rural side?

Is there light duty on rural side? I was under the assumption there wasn't. Have a carrier who can only work 4 days a week with medical excuse but route went to H. Now taking lwop 2 days out of week so he can only work the required 4days. Shouldn't they not be working until they can do job for required days.

Solution
I don't see the issue here.
As someone already pointed out this carrier may have FMLA protection. Just because the carrier is out of leave does not mean that the carrier must work. LWOP is perfectly acceptable under FMLA.
If not FMLA and Mgmt. allows this carrier to take LWOP a couple of days a week that's entirely up to Mgmt. Keep in mind that LWOP will only be allowed if a leave replacement is available. (Unless FMLA)
Now if other carriers are either being denied LWOP or if they are denied leave because a sub is covering for the other carrier and that carrier is on LWOP and not FMLA then it becomes problematic.

-- No light duty for the rural side, but there is limited duty.

-- Check Article 13 of the contract.

That’s on management to manage. Remember, if they do it for them, they do it for you.

And that is exactly where the problem lies. There is no such thing as light duty on the side. Unless it is an on the job injury.
There is no "light duty" for rurals, period.

However there is "limited duty" for rural carriers that have an injury or illness due to the job.

I realize it's a question of semantics but so often I have seen rural carriers that don't understand the difference.

That could be a violation of the contract depending on the 30-day rule, a 1723 submitted to the DR, & not allowed to continue past 6 months.
Management knows how to play the game. 1-2 days a week 204b will work route 3-4 days a week as 204b. it’s not continuous so the contract isn’t being broken, but 1-2 regs a week who are on rdwl will work relief day. 🤷‍♂️ it’s bogus but no one will say or do anything. subs Get paid, Regs who want overtime $$ get paid, management gets reduced Work hours but paid.

If the Union Rep isn’t being notified of this practice then how are they to stop it? If a carrier is utilized as a 204b the majority of the week then it is seen as the same as continuous. Regardless, a 1723 must be on file with the DR notifying them of the reasons for the P-codes along with the expected timeframe for the job reassignment.

People in my office work two hours for limited duty. I think your circumstance is better at least. Limited duty is a good gig for some in my office. For others they won't give them work. Makes no sense to me.
