Zero mail on the first day of mail count

The DPS truck didn't show up today because apparently it got in an accident and the mail got all wet. No flats or raw mail either. I literally just ran parcels for my route. How bad is this going to screw me over? Will the mail that got wet/damaged show up in a timely manner before the count is over?

At least my route got a lot of parcels today but this situation is giving me extreme anxiety.

Every piece that is wet must be marked up “received in damaged condition”, 15 seconds for each piece, you should do alright. When unusual circumstances happen during count your manager has the ability to place the average # of pieces on any day that was unusually low.

You had best have union official gets eyes on that mail. Also, after the mail is secured and dried it should transfer to you within the time of count. But, if you notice suspicious items after the count make a note of shipment loss today on 4239. In this day and age, any DR or adr not walking plants or asking for manifests is in outright dereliction of duty. I don't care if it's one carrier counting. It's one rural job on the line.

All -- A word search of the 2020 Mail Count Guide for "damaged" does not turn up anything.

-- The Mark-Up section does not address "damaged".

-- IMHO -- If damaged mail items are received and it is not appropriately stamped, be sure to get timed for taking damaged items to the supervisor so the items can be properly stamped.

-- AND if damaged items appear ( en masse ) after the mail count, take a good look at any postmark! Notify manglement if there are postmarks from early in the count.

Well, Saturday was extremely heavy with a ridiculous number of flats and DPS. It felt like two days worth of mail. Monday was also heavier than normal. I'm pretty confident that all of Friday's mail went out judging by the sheer volume of mail on those two days, but I think I will ask my supervisor tomorrow if that day can be thrown out anyway. I did get credit for marking up all the damaged mail pieces. I also got 7 certs yesterday and 8 certs today which is great.

Does anyone know how trays of DPS for a drop point should be counted? I deliver to a trailer park where I just place whole trays of DPS (which come sorted separately from the rest of my route) into a shed without fingering through it or anything. My supervisor doesn't know how it should be counted and neither do I.

I have never heard of that.
(If I collect a tray of outgoing mail, they count it as 1 mail piece collected, so, look out!)

Anyone have @flashaholic1 's same DPS experience?

Out of curiosity who does deliver the mail from that point. We have 2 trailer parks on separate routes and everything is put in by us. What about parcels and Spurs those just dropped off as well?

Well, if those DPS letter tray(s) are tagged and marked as DPS and those mail pieces are included in the end of run report for DPS why would those mail pieces NOT be counted as DPS ? If all of that mail is common address mail and goes by lot number or something, you MIGHT be able to get sector segment credit for it.

The person(s) working the "front desk" area or counter usually sort it out. They have a "box section" / "hot case" looking set up and sort it there by lot number or spot number in the park / RV campground / etc.

Basically, the mail person who works there drives up in a van and picks up all the mail and packages from the shed and drives it to the mail room (which is quite far away from the entrance). This place gets 50 to 100 packages a day and 1 or 2 full trays of DPS a day. Misthrows from the DPS and any outgoing mail/packages are placed in the shed the next morning for me to pick up.

Also, this shed can't be unlocked with the arrow key. It is padlocked and you have to walk up to the booth and ask for the key (which I get dismount credit for). It is very strange and I don't know any other route in my office that has anything like it. I consider it easy credit for packages and flats because it takes less than 10 minutes to scan and drop everything off. And so far they have been counting each outgoing letter from there individually.

That sounds like a dream come true. Both the trailer parks on different routes here get 1-2 trays of dps. 2 feet on average of flats and average 100 scans. Thank you for responding just seems to good to be true 😂.
