Am I the only one looking forward to a new PMG

I am so relieved we are getting a new PMG that is not from the ranks of the PO. Seriously the last two PMG looked like siblings. Donhoe the destroyer backed with Brennan promises and do nothing. If we don't get someone to clean this place up mostly with top heavy management we are not going to have a job, I am saying my prayers daily for a great PMG that has the balls to do what needs to be done for our future. After all our job can't get any worse we have hit the bottom of the pit so its only upwards from here.

-- Please, never, ever say that things can't get any worse!!

-- Karma ( or the USPS ) can find a way to make it worse!!

Karma can go both ways, doesn't always have to be negative.

I have been hoping and praying for the new person coming in too. I'm praying for someone who will have the attitude I've heard before: "If you don't touch the mail, we don't need you!" This could help the USPS in so many ways!

Everyone, let's make this OUR prayer!!

i'm not sure that getting someone from outside is always the best approach. it's someone that has never delivered mail, and has no idea how things are done on any level. reminds me of the engineers we have that are trying to figure our time standards. no idea of all that is involved in delivering, so i would guess that things probably will get worse. hoping for the best, but you have to be a realist as well...

Agree. Let's be realistic here, it's bad enough having PM's, Supes and 204b's that have never delivered mail.

The best PM's and Supervisors I have had have carried mail and "understand the deal" Having someone that has no idea about being in the field may not be the best approach, unless he / she has a terrific advisor who has. That person does not exst currently, in my opinion.

Agreed. And we haven't bottomed out as a business yet. We'll know when we've bottomed out because we'll all be unemployed. That's when you know you've bottomed out.

When you get to the management level of PMG, it's not about knowing how to deliver the mail. Anyone with a decent background in a service/manufacturing industry could do the job. You need someone who understands shipping contracts for transportation and flattening the percentage of mgmt to labor. And good heavens, please find a way to upgrade some technology to the 2000's.

And frankly, not too many are going to be interested in the job unless it's an ego challenge. The pay sucks and the quasi-government regulations are are deal breaker for most who find easier, bigger checks elsewhere.
I just hope it's not Ed Whitaker.

I think they should bring in the Military, the same as they would do if we went on strike.

The reason I am for a forceful outsider is because the very corporate culture is sick and will not change easily.

I think we can expect to get more of the same when a new Postmaster is chosen. I expect the two most influential people in making the choice to be the Postmaster General and who ever is the number 2 person is. These two people are both on the board that makes the decision and the other people know nothing.

Postal Employees on the other hand don't seem likely to organize a lobby to fight for something better.

All -- Past Postmaster Generals - Potter ( distribution clerk ), Donahue ( clerk ), and Brennan ( letter carrier ) all came up through the "ranks". Not much info on Henderson. Runyon was a real "outsider" with backgrounds at Ford, Nissan, and the TVA. When Runyon left TVA it was "much leaner, focused, and began paying down its massive debt."

-- Sounds like the USPS needs another Runyon instead of having someone from the "ranks" or one of the 32+ VP's becoming the next PMG.

PastOThirty et al -- "...but I think we need an innovator and a spender/investor type."

-- Just be careful what one wishes for.

-- Case in point: carriers desired to be paid for all their work during the work day.

-- Instead of going hourly, the USPS and NRLCA chose to go the RRECS route, which may take another 2+ years to implement.

-- To add to the list of what we are: Many probably could ask - Are we saps? ( as well as the red-headed stepchildren of the postal service. )

-- The USPS wanted to recapture the parcel business, but has none little to accomplish it aside from authorizing additional POV and LLV trips.

First thing a new pmg should do is walk into a post office and spend the next 2 weeks beong a carrier and a clerk. next week go work in plants...
Ha Ha... even local mngt geeks don't do that... instead they stroll in at 8 or 8:30, sucking down some coffee... stroll off to check some emails, play on their phones, and listen in on some telecons, then... lunch.... tough day.... ?

From the few hints I have heard, the board of governor's is only looking at outside help. The primary reason is the hope this someone would have a money history with elected officials- at least enough of a history to force congress to act on legislation and stop kicking the can down the road. We've hit critical mass on finances. After 26 months projections indicate we will not have enough to pay our bills or payroll. They are looking for a savior but without legislation we are dead on arrival.

Current mgmt is scared spitless about downsizing and being let go or ( gasp!!!) Being forcefully returned to craft as a ways to solve the hiring problem. I'd forgo a cola to see some of these paperchasers deliver in the LLV's?

That's why they're scrambling to try to justify their existence... whenever they can point to some sort of shortcoming, real or imagined or fabricated, then they can say, oh look how we really do provide some sort of necessary function... so really, they don't want things to work smoothly, because if they did they couldn't waste all day on telecons flapping their lips about all the problems they need to solve... self-licking lollipops... create a crisis, and then over-manage it.... ?

Gotrope et al -- " I'd forgo a cola to see some of these paperchasers deliver in the LLV's ."

-- Why cut them any slack? Make them deliver out of a POV!

-- How long before those Mercedes, BMW's, or Cadillac's get a bit dinged up?

"Current mgmt is scared spitless about downsizing and being let go.."

-- No doubt terrified that someone from the "outside" like another "Carvin' Marvin" becomes the next PMG!

Carvin' Marvin... knives are out.... ?

When the least needed, are the most overpaid... it's not rocket science here.... not brain surgery... it's not complicated... easy to see where the problem is, and what the solution is.... just sayin'....
