17 call outs in one day

Accordong to ur supervisor., so take it as possibly true. A town about 3.5 hours away from had 6 carriers that were placed on "emergency placement" for not wearing their seatbelts on Thursday. The MPOO's new pet PM (only been with PO for like 3 years) got sent 150 miles away to follow carriers around for seatbelt violations. Today 17 carriers called out sick in that office plus the the 6 already off. Our supervisor had to drive there to help deliver this morning

. Maybe someone with a brain doesn't suspend people leading into a holiday weekend?? Or an official discussion first before EP. Just dumb, they got what they deserve. So proud of those 17 carriers!!! Play stupid game = win stupid prizes!

Every postal employee that drives any govt. provided vehicle knows that wearing your seat belt is rule number one. So six carriers (rural or city) that can't be bothered to wear their seat belts and are suspended would get no sympathy from me.

If they are going to harass carriers then they won't have carriers to deliver the mail. Those 17 carriers are a real union!

Maybe they should send management to do a REAL route inspections and fix all the non-compliant mailboxes that a carrier had to unbuckle to reach. It would be a far better use of overpaid postal management pets.

Even better, FIX the vehicles that need repairs. I've seen too many vehicles with buckles and belts that don't even work right and management tells people "just be careful".

This comment is for you Charlie Brown.....you dont care, or have sympathy about carriers getting ep, then maybe you should care about po mgmt never doing their jobs right, and all the people theyve fired, stole from, and yes, even got killed because they didnt fix, or provide what's needed to do the job.... what a dingbat... The problem that comes up about seatbelts is, what constitutes "Wearing your seatbelts?".
Many managers believe, and our district driving instructor teaches that the shoulder strap, with the seatbelt must be worn whenever an LLV is in motion. This is not true according to previously settled grievances.
The shoulder belt may be detached anytime it is believed to encumber the carrier while delivering, but consideration should be made when conditions suggest it should be worn. Those conditions are higher speed limits, congested traffic, intersections, weather conditions etc. But those considerations are to be made by the carrier, not management. To and from the route, the full seatbelt is to be worn.

You must wear safety belts at all times the
vehicle is in motion. When driving a long life
vehicle (LLV), you must wear the lap belt and
shoulder belt whenever the vehicle is in motion.
Exception: When shoulder belts prevent you
from reaching to deliver or collect from curbside
mailboxes, you may unfasten the shoulder belt,
but never the lap belt.

It's apples and oranges I know but....This to me shows that management doesn't really have a clue on what to do to right this ship...other than hire more management and be super strict on everything. How much money is wasted on these people driving around...not doing their actual jobs, looking for people to put off the clock. We just had someone(local management claims they are a failed vmf that hasn't been fired yet) come through every town going south, gigging people on sometimes legit, sometimes minute, sometimes made up("they were speeding because I had to go over the speed limit to catch up" which is something you would have to do even if they were going the speed limit if you we far enough behind them)

How much of this is gigging carriers for events that management essentially encouraged from the moment they got in the postal service? Faster faster faster. Yes, the carriers doing this should be addressed but I sincerely wish for management to take some responsibility on this also.

Never gonna happen, I know..

If you are blatantly not following the rules, you get no sympathy from me. Especially when we have service talks monthly about making sure to wear your seatbelts. These are probably the same idiots who constantly leave the truck running and are not in the vehicle.

Best case scenario.

If someone is dumb enough to admit they did it in protest they can be fired and WILL lose the arbitration if USPS goes all the way with it. It wouldn't be the first time they've been able to fire people for protesting (which it sounds like this was).

i am from the mid 80's, so forgive me if wrong, but i don't think this matches the p.o. 603
