Any new info?

Tonight is our local union meeting and on the list of topics is the Engineered Study.  Just wondering if anyone has heard any new info.  I am thinking that I don't want to waste the time to drive 140 miles round trip to hear nothing.  It seems that this forum has better knowledge than my ADR.  I have sent him a message also but surprisingly he doesn't answer my direct question about the time study.

Imagine that!

Save your money and don’t go to the meeting.  Anything at the local meeting is hearsay anyway.  No info is disseminated to the masses, because jeannie in the bottle, and her crew of uselessness isn’t going to tell anyone anything, until some act of god, or court order, or, riot, or strike forces their hand.  Hey is it that people only think this study is three years overdue.  It is 16 years overdue according to the Wells decision I believe.  Both sides buried the award, and cohabitated in bed together, until the next arbitrator called them out on the carpet about it.  This is a disgrace to our craft.

You know... several years ago, I had a State Steward, before all of this national BS, and that State Steward actually sent out an email every couple of weeks with informative and useful info... and if I emailed him, he always emailed me back, and I could always get a call back from him whenever I left a voicemail for him...

The only thing this National Steward system has done, IMO, is to more than double my dues paid to the NRLCA... it sure as hail hasn't improved the help or support I've gotten...  <img title="Frown" alt="Frown" src="https://www.ruralmailtalk.ruralinfo.net/wp-content/sp-resources/forum-smileys/sf-frown.gif" />  but, these are the things I guess we're not suppose to notice...  <img title="Confused" alt="Confused" src="https://www.ruralmailtalk.ruralinfo.net/wp-content/sp-resources/forum-smileys/sf-confused.gif" />

I did call my old ADR before we got rezoned and she at least called me right back.  Said there hasn't been any real info given out.  She did tell me that they learned from the study that rural carriers rarely make complete stops at stop signs.  And said that there will be a 1 second credit for each stop sign at some point.  I believe the not stopping part but not so sure about getting a time credit for the stop sign.  I believe that she heard that just don't believe it to true.  BUT at least I got a call back and some sort of a response which is why I still call her occasionly for advice instead of my assigned rep.

So I've been a guest for quite a while.  I just felt the need to address being involved in the union.

I don't know if I'm just in a weird spot, but I've met the DR and ADRs plus the state board by being involved.  That means going to any and every meeting I can possibly get my foot into.  These are our jobs on a local level and these individuals are the ones that can improve it there and work to improve it overall nationwide.  Sure some ain't worth their weight in salt, but there are quite a few out there fighting for our rights to just do our jobs and go home fairly.

Not here to throw dirt, but if anyone feels that there isn't enough being done.  The only way things change is by start getting involved on the local level.  Hell at SAC most of the VPs of the southeast districts had no idea some of the managers weren't following direct instructions until carriers had the courage to stand up and talk about it.  So your voice matters if you want it to.  I've seen it work in person.

Disgusting and completely unacceptable. Yet, we can do zero about it except bend over.

Don't we just have the best union everyone? (Totally not sarcastic)

--  1 SECOND!!!  BFD!!  Pardon my acronym!

--  That is about as timely as 30 seconds total for a parcel, especially for a parcel that goes to the door.

--  Maybe it was just me but I had to crane my neck around a lot to see what was potentially being blocked by the left- and right-side mirrors of the LLV.

I can confirm with more safety observations than I care to remember the average in my district is 1out of 46 carriers actually stop for traffic controls( stops/lights). For the most part carriers are incredibly caveler about their safety. Yes, I've been told there is a time factor for stops of any kind. And it had better be closer to 8 seconds as that is the average time I was told it takes to decelerate and get back up to speed. I'm guessing this is taking into consideration  pov, as I don't know of any llv that can accelerate from a stop with a full load and four cylinders back up to 30 mph in less than 8 sec.  And dear heavens, don't let their be a hill to climb!!

It's SAFETY, SAFETY, SAFETY... until somebody says... can we have a time allowance for that???  Then they forget about all of that, look left, look right, look left again BS... now we're talking 1 measly second...  <img title="Confused" alt="Confused" src="https://www.ruralmailtalk.ruralinfo.net/wp-content/sp-resources/forum-smileys/sf-confused.gif" />

I always wonder who will deliver the mail when they start giving some of those 45 out of 46 peeps a few days off... most days, it seems like most PO's are scraping to find enuf peeps to deliver the routes, as it is... on Saturdays, they're splitting routes and having some RCAs <span style="color: #ff0000"><strong>RUNNING</strong> </span>2 routes... DOH!?!? wonder if they're stopping at EVERY stop sign on BOTH routes???  <img title="Confused" alt="Confused" src="https://www.ruralmailtalk.ruralinfo.net/wp-content/sp-resources/forum-smileys/sf-confused.gif" />

Sorta gives new meaning to... Here's yer sign... <img title="Surprised" alt="Surprised" src="https://www.ruralmailtalk.ruralinfo.net/wp-content/sp-resources/forum-smileys/sf-surprised.gif" />

And so now we know who the 1 in 46 are... they're the ones on this forum that say they do EVERYTHING right... stop at EVERY stop sign, take their satchels and dog spray on EVERY dismount... etc., etc...  wow, you folks do breathe some rarefied air... 1 in 46... I tip my hat to you... <img title="Cool" alt="Cool" src="https://www.ruralmailtalk.ruralinfo.net/wp-content/sp-resources/forum-smileys/sf-cool.gif" />

The satchel I have sits on the step of the table side of LLV. Removed it the other day because it was growing mold from the snow covered windshield protector that I place atop of it when the season is here.  The trick to laying a "patch" with the llv is... as reversing pop it into N continue roll back, rev motor and slap that puppy into drive.

Satchel concept conceived by a non delivery person or a rural before 50lb dog chow deliveries. Most useless item ever. Where are most heavy item placed when delivering? So one gets out the front with satchel, scanner and dog spray on hip. Go to back of ride to retrieve chow,  where does the satchel go? I need to use my key. If I place satchel atop of 50lb of dog chow how am I to use it if both hands are full of kibble? Nudge it off with my chin? Sorry chow is getting dropped. I admit I don't use satchel. I was never properly educated at training 20 years ago or received any when issued except "you need to use this at known dog locations". That's why I have Dog Warning Cards for every dog known on route. Got credit for all last time counted because scanner inputs never made. What happened to that concept? Did it go the way of Load Leveling? Oh, you might have to pay us for these more than the card value to clear the Brick in order to scan.

Back to the IE... the little wizard is not about to come out from behind the curtain to reveal the results because we are all driving the Yellow Brick Road and delivering a lot for free. Talk about get along to move along. This extended wait only proves that they are both talking now about the results and we will never see the actual times by this study, only a prior negotiated allowance when a new contract is offered. Don't worry the changes in the contract will be presented as abbreviated and highlighted in red so one can see important issues pertaining to their given situation and do not have to read all highlighted areas.

This way they can assure less than 30% turn out for the contract vote.

WTH... I thought it was done and Meg & Jeanie were high-fiving with all their girl-power BS... making joint comments on how great it's all gonna be... what happened to all of that???  <img title="Confused" alt="Confused" src="https://www.ruralmailtalk.ruralinfo.net/wp-content/sp-resources/forum-smileys/sf-confused.gif" />

All -- Expanding on my #10 posting regarding a pending 1 second "bonus" for each stop sign.

--  Why not for traffic signals?

--  Wonder if we will get what is involved in making a "stop" for a stop sign or stop light?

a quick look at the rear view mirrors to check for vehicle(s) that may be behind -- and if the vehicle is beginning to also slowing down.

begin decelerating and applying the foot brake.

be sure to stop before reaching any painted surface at an intersection.   if the paint is wet, you'll slide right over it ( personal experience ).

now stopped at the stop sign, like "DB", I was taught to look left, look right, look left again -- reverse that process if you have to make a left-hand turn -- like some of us had to do when leaving the post office parking lot to get on the road to our routes!

don't forget to check if there are sidewalks and for pedestrians, kids, bicyclists, scooterists, people glued to a cell phone, etc while looking left and right.

also don't forget to check straight ahead in case it is a 4-way stop, traffic light, or a divided highway with a middle lane for making a turn onto your street or even a U-turn.

traffic is flowing, so you can not pull out, so begin the looking process again until it is safe to make the right hand turn ( or left hand turn ) to pull out into the roadway and accelerate.

make sure the directional turn signal has switched off.

check the rear view mirrors -- just in case a vehicle is coming too fast.

--  so all that and more for 1 second -- really?  well one second is one second.

--  sort of like the 10 seconds involved in taking a parcel to the door!   good luck in doing that.

--  the USPS seems to be able to conduct "time studies" when ever they want will little, if any push back from the NRLCA.   see if you can time yourself a few times when making a turn at an intersection -- with and without having to wait for other traffic.  probably will be a little over one second, I'll bet.

Probably not related to the segmented roll out of the study. I received a call, out of the blue, from a past acquaintance who is in management. This person asked if i had heard of any rumors regarding July. This person overheard multiple management, at a meeting, discussing how upset the rurals would be in July. Not sure if this person was fishing for info or if this is an upcoming district wide thing. I guess we'll see in July.

Maybe they're fine tuning the study fiasco to get the maximum effect... I've said all along I believe this is gonna be the PostPlan for rurals...  back in about 2012 or so they unleashed PostPlan to get rid of bunches of small PO PM's... very ingenious and very effective...

Now that they've got quite a few folks hired after 2010... new meat for Table 2... I'm sure they're salivating to move some of the old Table 1 folks along... what a $$$ money saving opportunity... maybe related to all of these increased safety inspections we're hearing about as well...

Instead of offering $$$ incentives to get the hail out... they'll just make life so miserable, people will start jumping like rats from a sinking ship...

So there... I hope that cheered everybody up...  <img title="Laugh" alt="Laugh" src="https://www.ruralmailtalk.ruralinfo.net/wp-content/sp-resources/forum-smileys/sf-laugh.gif" />

They are jumping.  The junior table 2 regs.  Had reports at our meeting of abrupt voluntary departures because they are fed up.  The DR was dumbfounded and blaming the carriers.  </blockquote>
