If be happier if it was a UPS board member..FedEx has been on a labor tear since Fred left.

President Donald Trump and the U.S. Postal Service's leadership have reportedly agreed to appoint a FedEx board member to succeed Louis DeJoy as postmaster general, heightening concerns that the administration is pushing the independent mail agency toward privatization.

Why is Trump involved at all in the selection? Doesn't a president's contribution to the discussion end at appointing members to the Board?

A major postal union is reacting with dismay to reports that the Trump administration is backing FedEx board member and former Waste Management CEO David Steiner to be appointed as the next postmaster general, comparing the choice to a “hostile takeover” of the historically independent mail service.

“His selection isn’t just a conflict of interest—it’s an aggressive step toward handing America’s mail system over to corporate interests,” National Association of Letter Carriers Brian L. Renfroe said in a statement. “Private shippers have been waiting to get USPS out of parcel delivery for years. Steiner’s selection is an open invitation to do just that.”

Renfroe accused Steiner of a corporate record at Waste Management of “union-busting, slashing jobs, and replacing workers with machines.”

"The board has the responsibility to do what is best for USPS," he added. "This decision is not only a failure in that responsibility but shows open contempt for the work of America's letter carriers and the public good."

As CEO of Waste Management, Steiner frequently played hardball with The Teamsters, locking them out more than once. I HATE this selection. Just when things can't get any worse. I'm exhausted.

The president can recommend a list of individuals to pick from. The actual BOG makes the selection from candidates they and President put forth.

The Board hired a consultancy firm to search for DeJoy's successor.

The U.S. Postal Service Board of Governors today announced that it has retained global leadership advisory firm Egon Zehnder to lead the executive search for the 76th Postmaster General and Chief Executive Officer. Egon Zehnder is one of the world’s preeminent executive search firms. The firm will work closely with the Governors to identify, evaluate, and select a forward-looking and effective leader to guide the Postal Service into its next chapter.

And then...

It advanced three finalists in recent days to the White House for approval, the people familiar with the decision said: Steiner; Jim Cochrane, the head of the Package Shippers Association industry group; and William Zollars, a former postal governor and president of trucking company YRC.

Trump’s team narrowed the field to Steiner and Cochrane, The Post reported Tuesday. Cochrane met with Trump on Friday at his Trump International Golf Club in Florida, according to three people familiar with the meeting, where the president said he’d decided to offer the job to Steiner, but instructed aides to ensure that Cochrane was hired into a senior role at the agency.

There was no mention in any of the articles related to PMG Donahoe or Brennan's appointment about Obama being involved, nor Bush having anything to do with Potter's selection.

Whatever happened to promoting from within and selecting people actually familiar with the organization based on their merits?
25 years of abysmal failure ? Of failing to even remotely try any type of business culture? That's why runyan was placed into office, also why DeJoy was picked. Although, things were much more dire when DeJoy walked in. The reason USPS made it, at all, to DeJoys tenure Was because of runyans automation.

I can absolutely see the new guy as cutting labor and building footprint. He was famous for that at FedEx.

In and around my area not much left of labor across many crafts to cut. I know fully staffed offices exist I just haven’t seen that unicorn.

FedEx pilots have gone without a contract for 4 years now while their employees and customers sound the alarm about consolidations affecting service and staffing. Sounds like this will be more of the same catastrophe we have seen while the guy familiarizes himself with the structure of USPS to see which parts FedEx wants.

Common denominator for "saving" these companies is it always comes at the expense of the employees in the trenches and customers. Their success stories never seem to include examples of how they got rid of the 300 members of upper management across the country making 1.5 million dollars each
Sounds like many of the govt budget cuts hurt the people who actually need the help.

Maybe they'll waive that conflict of interest thing about carriers not being able to work for competitors, in light of the new PMG connections.... RCAs can moonlight with FedEx and UPS (FedUps) competition.... wth.... what will happen when Bezos buys the whole shooting match???? 🤷‍♂️👉:rolleyes:😁

so, dejoy part deux.
I liked the part where he wanted the workers not be called garbage men in a derogatory manner. But to be respected and paid a respectable wage.

Right now, we are crap paid slaves. Imagine arms folded fat pink haired woman standing on her porch screeching it's YOUR job to bring the packages to her. It's beneath her to walk over and degrade herself by getting her own packages.
