kj -- " What is the USPS policy for having a cold for only one day. "
-- Not the best time of the year to be sick.
-- Next time call the USPS # for unscheduled leave ( 1-877-477-3273, Option 4 ). Be sure to get a confirmation number to cover your assets!
-- Or come into work and when really feeling queasy, stand by the supervisors desk -- just in case you have to throw-up. That might change the supervisor's mind about you coming into work feeling sick.
-- Page 21 f the contract: For periods of absence of three ( 3 ) days or less, a supervisor MAY accept an employee's certification [ note ] as reason for absence.
-- The ELM's Section 513.361 says the same thing. Section 5613.362 -- For absences in excess of 3 days, employees ARE REQUIRED to submit medical documentation or other acceptable evidence of incapacity for work or of need to care for a family member and, if requested, substantiation of the family relationship.
"I don't see a reason to spend money to get a doctors note for being sick for one day. "
-- Unfortunately, manglement does not always see it that way.
-- But to ease the pain and frustration, if manglement requires a doctor's note for less than 3 days absence, have the doctor attach a note saying the post office ( or member of manglement ) will be billed for providing medical information to a third party. ( idea taken from a city carrier ) Let the doctor set his own fee. Due to HIPPA laws ( federal ), the doctor can be a vague has he/she wants in informing manglement of your illness.
-- Same for regulars and RCA's. ARC's--??
