<p style="text-align: left">All -- Heat-related issues beginning to pile up for the USPS.

--  13 July -- Kanawha, WV mail carrier collapses on porch while delivering mail from heat exhaustion.  He died.

--  13 July --  Postal workers walk off the job at Westhampton Station, Richmond, VA after heat index hits 100 degrees.   No A/C for days!

--  Head for the NALC home page ( NALC.org ) and look for "Redesigned Heat Safety Tool app released".  NIOSH and OSHA combined to update OSHA's original Heat Safety Tool app for smartphones.  The updated app provides such info as the Heat Index / Hourly Index / Signs & Symptoms / First Aid.   BTW -- if you have the original OSHA app, it will no longer function after 30 September.

--  According to the USPS:  The safety and well-being of our employees is a top priority for the Postal Service.  ( sorry to see it is "a" top priority, not "the" top priority )

I can remember from back in my early days with the good ole USPS I started out as a PTF.  One day, while city carrying, I almost passed out from the heat.  I was swaying back and forth walking down a street.  Sat down on someone's porch for a few minutes, then was able to make it back to the LLV.  Bad thing about being a city carrier is you have no refuge from the heat.  All you can do is get back to that LLV, open up the door, and sit down in a vehicle hotter than it is outside.  The only thing you could do is find some store and go inside and sit there for a bit.  I can only imagine what it's like today with the GPS scanners.  If you did that...deviated to someplace with some AC...you'd hear about it from management.

Be it the death of this carrier in WV, or the shooting in Rolla... I'm always amazed at how quiet the USPS seems to keep these tragedies...  <img title="Frown" alt="Frown" src="https://www.ruralmailtalk.ruralinfo.net/wp-content/sp-resources/forum-smileys/sf-frown.gif" />

Certainly has been  no stand up talks about them, or taking actions to prevent them... <img title="Confused" alt="Confused" src="https://www.ruralmailtalk.ruralinfo.net/wp-content/sp-resources/forum-smileys/sf-confused.gif" />
