When we have parcel assistance in our all LLV office during Xmas. Because we all case our DPS, while we are doing that they focus on the delivering large parcels for the ends of all our routes (the last hour to 1 1/2 hr of each route). We do this so that the area that has a chance to have to be completed in the dark, most of the get outs are done for safety reasons. All our routes are 40 or less miles, average 600 addresses. Usually by the time they are completed we are also ready to load and depart to route. We have been doing it this way for years and it's always worked very well. They work about 3 to 4 hours a day, we only have 40% RCA coverage to route, So they each take about 2 & 1/2 routes parcels for that last part of each route. How are your offices handling parcel assistance by RCA's during holiday peak period?
You might specify if you're rural or suburban, LLV or POV, how staffed you are with RCA's, to help see answers relative to your situations.
I would hope that they are on the clock (8127 time) when they do this?No RCA help in our office. Plenty are available but management had other ideas. The regulars are given the option to come on early to do parcels.

So they are getting paid per the MOU for a Regular Carrier assisting another route (at the OT rate) while actually working their own route? Now that's creative, and they wonder why the USPS is still losing money!Actually they just charge the hours to a route that is being split.

Maybe I should answer my letter and tell them I'd run their parcels for $50 bucks an hour.... anything less, then fuhgeddaboudit....So they are getting paid per the MOU for a Regular Carrier assisting another route (at the OT rate) while actually working their own route? That’s what was discussed today, I just said nope you all ready agreed aux assistance everyday for me. I go thru current parcels thrown right away in the morning. They can grab what I set aside for them easy fix… few regs are all for it .Actually they just charge the hours to a route that is being split.
so, what's your plan for peak? That’s what was discussed today, I just said nope you all ready agreed aux assistance everyday for me. I go thru current parcels thrown right away in the morning. They can grab what I set aside for them easy fix… few regs are all for it .
Really depends on how much assistance I get. Regardless they will be doing 2 of my pick ups in the morning. It has officially started 9 trips between the 2 yesterday in pick ups. Little over 1200 parcels picked up….so, what's your plan for peak?
have no idea what new manglement's plan is yet, last year old manglement just let me carry everything. felt like a city carrier with all the dough i made.
if new insists on aux, then i am going to deliver all bigs and give the smalls away. since the subs in our office insist on cramming in the box what should go to the door.
We haven’t had parcel assistance in five yearsHow are your offices handling parcel assistance by RCA's during holiday peak period?

I am interested to see if new management will try to shove that down our throat this year. Unlikely we have the subs so if anything they will schedule one everyday to just run parcels plus arcs. Will see how it ends up working out. They are telling us we are going to be our own parcel assistance. 6-9 runs every day.
It’s all hands on deck here for city side….. even our arcs and being used to run city parcels. They are also taking my second trip parcels for me only. Other regs want relief day so they aren’t getting assistance .District has said NO parcel assistance for any office for city or rural as of now. They indicate they expect the volume to be manageable for regular carriers.
(they of course are on a different planet, and when the OT the city is burning shows up in reports and CCA's are sitting home clipping coupons......)
