Hourly - Yea or Nay ?

About to take on a Reg route. As I've been a 'hold down' specialist (snark !) have not run this route for over two years. PO truck. High end Lake front housing - Wall Street Journals and lots of year 'round parcels - currently averaging 2-250 a day. 470 plus or minus stops on 22 miles or so. Stupidly assigned 'H' status ! Have to opt for or against hourly. Good chance to move to POV route I want (and currently holding down !) by mid 2021. Thoughts ?

Hourly, and you can bid immediately for others as they come up.

Spend your time when under eval updating edit book and 4003, labels in the cbu, labels at the case, vacant cards in corresponding boxes, Mark boxes that aren’t obvious what address they belong to....things that may have been neglected until you took over.

I regret not having done mine hourly. They have killed me this year. I would have made much more money doing it hourly. This year finishing the route and getting to go home early didn't happen and I don't look for it to get any better.

In the past years the key to choosing hourly or not was based on time of year you were made a Regular Carrier! Now it doesn't much matter unless the route you are working on has an after Amazon accurate evaluation!

Too me, hourly is protection against abusive management, terrible Plant inefficiencies that always roll down hill to the Carrier, and all those other unpredictable events like break downs, bad weather on and on. Hourly solves it all. Covers it all. You get OT after 40. WTF is so hard to understand? The strongest Unions on this planet represent hourly workers.

In your situation, hourly. You'll be limited to 40 hours right? No subs? Subs? No borrowing in if "you're available". And something I whole heartedly disagree with on the NRLCA position. But if you go regular, you should be afforded the right to sign the rdwl.

If the very "benefit" of evaluation is working hard and potentially going home early and keep getting paid your full days pay, but is also the very reason that during contract negotiations that postal management can point too and tell the arbitrator that we get paid more than we work and thus we lose on all kinds of issues(30 sec parcels...gd....) Then, the evaluated system is not a perk we enjoy...but an albatross around our neck. Where we continuously lose on each contract, until we will eventually be running from task to task, just to get back in the time they say it takes..

I chose evaluation, and even though I don’t always make the evaluation (it’s been getting slammed every day lately), I prefer it because I feel like management would be rushing me if I were hourly. It’s tough. I am in physical pain every day, right now in fact. Can’t imagine having management breathing down my neck on top of all the other stress right now.

Let them breathe down your neck, what can they do? Nothing, they can follow you around making sure you cross your T's and dot your I's but that takes them time and adds to your time, so they won't do it for long.
I saw them do it to a couple of carriers and it looked like pure hell. Just something I personally don’t want to get into. It’s not a popular opinion and I understand why, though. I avoid confrontation, and am probably a chickensh!t, but in my life, I am too damn stressed out. I am dead tired and I choose my battles. I am honestly trying to avoid having a god damn heart attack atm.

Non productive bullying
Sounds stressful and hostile. I imagine a better work environment in my head and my inner smile shines hope and happiness for you and yours. It's gotta get better
