Current wait for a retirement counseling phone session is 2 months...and that will be a conference call with three other employees and the specialist. My advice is to order or print your blue book retirement application 6 months ahead of your last day, fill out the basic stuff and call for a counseling appointment right away. Make notes of items you have questions on or leave blank. If you have RCA time before Jan 1, 1989, print and fill out a Form 3108 at the same time to see if it is worth buying back your time.
Sounds like we have a lot of employees on the way out the door this Fall😎

Might have a job interview soon, was going to take my $500 a month and run, if it takes that long to retire, might just have resign instead if the job seems good enough.

Ya I called and the first session available was October 19th! I was going out on October 23rd. But I think I'll either fill it out on my own, OR move my date to November and use my sick leave and extra annual days to stretch it out to the finish line. My husband retired last year and I can just "copy" his application, just haven't decided yet what to do. Just can't do another Christmas!

You can still go as you planned. I had my retirement phone counseling session on April 20th, express mailed my paperwork to Shared Services that afternoon. Two days later later they received them and I was officially retired on April 24th.

Remember there are best days to go out on retirement for both FERS and CRS employees. There are several good retirement cites on Facebook.

Update on my personal timeline...mailed my packet to HRSCC on Aug 22, certified mail, arrived Aug 29, took a week to go 2 states away😕...got a confirmation email on Sept 3 that I was in the queue.
Have you locked in your final date and so forth????

I'm thinking I'll go at the end of next year if all goes according to plan.....

My final date was May 30 also. OPM website tells me that a caseworker has been assigned for weeks but nothing finalized. I just received two forms in the mail that needed witnessed. Both designation of beneficiaries (pension and one other). Why wouldn't these have been included in the original packet?

Because they are idiots. I sent a complete packet including beneficiary elections, FEGLI, and FEHB stuff. They still sent new copies to be signed. Waste of man hours is what I call these desk jockeys.
As always, the rural craft seems to be the only part of the postal service required to do our job every day. We would be an awesome organization if the rest of the employees worked as hard as we do and were held accountable!!
