How long should it take to approve/deny leave request? I requested in October for leave in May and June. Crickets.

Union says 3-5 days is a unwritten reasonable amount of time. City carrier union in our office has that in writing

Ive politely suggested (forced) my pm to sign the part that acknowledges they recieved it, date stamp, and copy.

I have a 3 day tolerance. A majority of my leave has been approved via a steward. But i plan it out for the whole year, so no rush. I've gotten last minute leave <10 days notice approved via step2.

1) Is this grievable?

2) Is the excuse, "Denied for needs of Postal Service" legitimate?

That is not a legitimate answer. ANY denial of a Leave Request is grievable. It is per OUR wishes & mgmt has many options for covering a route. I’d have to look for it again but it is in writing that “timely“ for returning a 3971 is 3-5 days.
My Office works on the assumption that if a 3971 isn’t returned as Denied (timely) then it’s approved. What is funny is some mgmt believes that we cannot file until the schedule is made for that requested timeframe. ?
