Opt out of union

I posted a thread early asking about the law of canceling membership after 1yr without providing my anniversary versa date. I have nice emailed pnpeters@flra.gov and im waiting on his response. So we will see what the say.

This is not a union RULE, it is a USPS rule. The Usps has this rule so that they won’t be changing “allotments” coming out of our pay checks every 5 minutes, depending on our whims, but only on our anniversary dates.
Have you fallen onto financially hard times, (route cut or lost evaluation)? Or are you just sick of something that the union has done or not done?

When did they start doing anything for us??

Are you off on a holiday today? Well then let’s start there. Do you get annual and sick leave? Do you have Thrift savings matching plus a retirement? Are you working while knowing that you can NOT be laid off? A lot of these companies that got raises recently don’t have the benefits/retirement that you do.
Is our union great? No it isn’t, because we need members like you that will speak up against the regular politicians that we have had in leadership roles in our union. At our last convention, we voted everyone out except for a few , why not give them a chance to show us their value before you leave the union. There are many ways that you could get value out of your union. I have received several thousand dollars from grievances that I filed, with the help of our union. Has it paid for all the years of dues that I’ve paid in? No, but I’m only about 5-10 short and expect to get that back in grievances before I retire.

I have gotten nothing.

My DR told me my last grievance would change my evaluation maybe an hour possibly 2. It wasn’t worth his time. Not the first time he’s told me it wasn’t worth fighting.

That hour or 2 would could have been $3000 to $5000 in my bank account. But not worth HIS time. I’m out of the union this December. I’ve paid them my entire 22 yrs of employment and never have I gotten someone to help me.

All federal workers receive these benefits, and if the union produces a contract in our favor with protection for us against things like the over burden Amazon packages everyday along with a fair assessment of time to handle and deliver these packages. I will beat down their door to rejoin, I pray that they can show us such a contract but I have this sick feeling in my gut that they will bring us a ridiculous1.3% wage increase more of RRECS ripping us off possibly very poor cola with another two year wait to receive our back pay while they laugh at us and the start of transitioning us into hourly workers so they can force us to work and cover other routes just like they do RCAs along with Sunday and Holiday package delivery.

I pray I am wrong and the union steps up but I am looking for alternative paths so I am not stuck when they come with more of the same that they always give away.

Re read the top half of what the person responded with. Let that sit.

The over burdened Amazon packages…after the first Survey we had a fair amount of routes go up in eval to reflect that. What exactly do you mean by that statement?

300 PLUS A DAY, can you sort mark, load and dekiver 300 packages in 10 seconds for each one remember the more you get the more time each one takes. I bet you can't do it in one minute per package.

My guess is that you let your District rep talk you out of filing. Did you file the grievance anyway?
If he then didn’t represent you properly, you could have filed a national labor charge against him. Some stewards need that to make them do their jobs.
You also have to stand up for yourself, and not let your steward push you around. If you went to a restaurant and only ordered a cup of coffee and your waitress told you that it wasn’t worth her time wouldn’t you have complained? Same thing with your steward.
If I was you I would file tomorrow, even if it’s late, you may still be timely if it is a pay issue.

Which federal employees got the benefits that were mentioned above? Ups is hiring right now, if your body can take it, go there now. Please realize you probably will be laid off in February or March, as many ups employees are. That nice fat raise is great, until it’s gone, and you have no income at all.

I read it. And I have been over work and under compensated for years. I want my K day off. I want time off for doctor’s appointments. I want my letters to be counted in a mini mail survey. I want annual leave granted.

I filed the grievance, my PM never followed through. When I filed a complaint regarding it my to my DR said it wasn’t worth his time. I’m done. I don’t have it in me to fight anymore.

All honesty when it comes to fight or flight. ✈️ 🕊️🦅 ✌️

When a grievance is filed, we don’t care what the pm does, you give a copy of the grievance to your steward with the initials of your pm at 3-b (with the date of your first step discussion). When and if your steward doesn’t handle the grievance properly then you file a national labor board complaint.
All of life is a fight, the minute you stop fighting, you die.
Most likely the reason you are so overwhelmed is because of working non stop 6 days a week with heavy Amazon. I understand, I’ve been there, and did it for three years. It’s not easy. I would start filing non stop grievances about everything, like not hiring, no vacation/sick days etc.

You are not getting 10 seconds per package to sort , load and deliver. You are getting more than a minute per package if you deliver just 25% of them to door ( 60 doors will do ) and rest in mailbox and locker . Probably you actually do more than that many door anyway. Which will push your minutes per package further up

Call national and have a factual, honest conversation with president or VP. Don't use your emotions, use facts and dates about the representation you are receiving. If you don't advocate for better, don't be surprised if things don't improve.

Notify them that you believe you are being underrepresented. Hopefully, a contract is available to vote before you leave.
