Replace/repair my Jeep?

I know what you mean. I’ve kept mine way longer than a sane person would lol. It’s in the shop right now for another $2000 fix
I guess I'm lucky. My 2008 rhd wrangler has 276k miles no major problems. 2 years ago I had a starting issue. Had all grounds cleaned. Starts up every time now. Original transmission as well. Easy to work on. The 3.8l is at least...

Good deal. I’d like to find one in that year range. The 2012 and higher with the penstar are practically junk. All have the same issues. Junk wiring harness and engine issues.

I have a 2016 Wrangler, 160000 miles, paid off, but it's starting to have some major issues. Shop I trust says it needs a new wiring harness. Lately it's randomly going into limp mode, which I can get it out of by either slowing down or restart. ABS light, traction control light, brake light, and hill descent light randomly go on/off. Today it started throwing codes related to the oil pump.

I was hoping to limp it along for another year to save up and replace it with something, but I'm not sure what to do. I know it's a decision based on personal finances and circumstances.

Anyone with experience having a wiring harness replaced? Carriers in my office only have bad experience with replacement.
Curious how your fix went…

I know that it has nothing to do with the problems I was having with my Jeep, but all my idiot lights stopped coming on after I had new tires and brake pads put on.

About a week ago I started getting the abs, traction control, and hill assist lights randomly coming on. No noticeable change in the engine noise or transmission with the lights coming on, so for now I'm gonna drive it until something breaks for real and ignore the damn lights.

Careful I did that, brakes went completely out on the route. Ever finish the last 4 boxes by just using the E brake not fun. I was not going to be shorted the entires day pay tho 😂.

Is PCM a common problem for wranglers? Buy one remanufactured Ecm Pcm Programmed to your Vin#, check ebay. Limp mode is related to the transmission and not the engine in this case?

Jks and up are problematic, wiring and computer issues are common. Seems like any number of things will send them into limp mode; I've seen everything from a bad wheel bearing to a cracked oil pressure sensor wire do it.

Quick way to get professional diagnosis

Since the transmission works normally after a reset, it suggests the physical parts responsible for gear changes are likely operational. The fact that the problem returns after a shutdown points towards a communication error or a problem with the TCM function within the PCM.As mentioned earlier, a temporary glitch in the TCM could be causing the limp mode. The reset clears the glitch, but it might reappear during normal operation. There could be a problem with the PCM's memory retaining TCM data. The reset temporarily fixes it, but the data isn't stored correctly, leading to limp mode on restart. An intermittent issue with the wiring harness could be causing the communication between sensors and the TCM to drop out. This would explain the lack of data and limp mode after turning off the ignition.

If you are looking for new vehicle, I would buy one of those Japan import RHD. Older vehicle so relative easy to work compared to the new crap.
I agree.

I bought an import 1997 Toyota RHD van last year with 41,000 miles on it.
I LOVE it.
AWD, decent gas mileage, runs great.

ONLY Brakes and oil changes & a window motor so far.

I suggest getting on from an Import dealer, who flushes the fluids. Changes the brakes & belts, and has it ready to go as soon as you get it.

I got mine from Dalton Pike motors. They delivered it to my driveway. 1000 miles away.

I will buy my next RHD from them

Thanks for the recommendation. My next RHD purchase will most likely be an import Hilux or AWD van.

Just came across this post…

TL;DR- the battery connection is loose.

I also have 2016 RHD Jeep wrangler- was having the same exact issue. ABS/Traction lights on, and periodically the “brake”(emergency) light would come on and Jeep would go into limp mode. I assumed it was probably related to the ABS/traction and 1 (or more) of my wheel speed sensors needed replacing/cleaning etc. I just kinda ignored it and would stop/restart to clear the light/limp mode.

The other day I had an unrelated issue (or so I thought), battery died (on the route), could not be jump started, or charged at all. but when attempting to jump start I noticed my negative connector was loose, even though the screw was fully tightened I could tug and jiggle it off. Purchased a new battery, connected it, ensured it was super tight and surprisingly this also stopped the brake light/limp mode issue. Few days go by and boom! brake light/limp mode starts again. I pop the hood and sure enough that super tight cable could be jiggled and pulled off again. So I purchased a pack of battery shims ($4.59) popped it on the negative terminal, tightened everything and it’s all fixed.

I had all those issues on my 2017 with 180,000 miles. I never could figure it out and Jeep could never replicate the condition. I'd hit a washboard road and all the lights would light up. I kept a Bluetooth dongle in the port and bought a code reader app for my phone. Would stop and delete the codes. I sold it to a contract carrier and bought a new minivan under mou8.

Every car will have issues. I bet if you'd bought the mopar lifetime warranty, you'd be in a better spot. I regret not getting it. But I did by the extended commercial warranty for my van. All issues covered.

I brought an 04 jeep rhd and 08 rhd. They would not issue me a life time warranty, because it was used as a commercial vehicle. A lady in our office bought a new vehicle, she didn’t tell them it was for postal use. She had full warranty. Not right but she did it.

You’re very lucky, my 08 was nothing but trouble. Starting problems, no one could diagnose, finally had a mechanic that said he was determined to solve. Then transmission problems ( over and over). I had bought a 3,000 dollar warranty, they had trans out laying on work bench , they informed me they couldn’t use the warranty, but they would cancel insurance and refund , trans repair cost 2,985 dollars!!!! Go figure!!!!!
