Someone else chime in if need be, but I believe you get paid for them after so many weeks without being able to use them. If you have them at retirement I would try to use them up in your last days/ weeks immediately prior. I would not give them any time, period!!
They have 12 weeks to schedule them from time earned.
After that time, they are to be paid out to you. (This slips through the cracks for many PMs.)
You can request the pay now.
It has nothing to do with retirement.
Grieve if denied.
I would use them all b4 you go, your retirement date is that... your end date can be b4 that if you save them to the end. My retirement date 9/25 my end date is 8/15 using sick leave.
Sick leave is added to your pension but any odd days you have over an even month of time are lost. If you look at the math it makes more sense to burn the sick leave vs have it added to your pension if you are within your last year of service. Are you looking at retiring this year?
