What would you like to see change in the new contract?

What are some things you would change with the new contract? It can be whatever you think or new things in contract.

Here are 2 things I wish they would look into.

#1 X Days rules. Get rid of the 12 week crap rule. My district is cracking down on X days over 12 weeks. X day can be held on to for longer or something because lack of subs.

#2 Ability to take half day off. I think it is time to give us ability to take half day off for afternoon appt instead of taking the whole day off.

Remove PayScale 2 and put everyone on PayScale 1. Those on PayScale 1 are high enough up the chart it won't effect them and it will make it a much more desirable job and allow them to raise the rates of RCA pay.

Figure out a way to make transferring to another state possible. Maybe it's you have to submit your name on a waitlist behind the current RCA's when you put in the request but make it possible even if it takes time.

PayScale - If your route is evaluated over a 48K - then they must pay you (X ??) amount of $ for each hour over the 48K until they make the route adjustments.

Put it back in writing that if you are going to be forced to pick up a shift that they have a minimum of 3 days (or 7) before the shift to require it. They can ask at any point but a forced shift addition shouldn't happen the day before. We need time to make life plans. Also require a set time the schedule must be posted before the work week. I hate getting out schedule on Friday for the week starting the next day and it must be hell on the RCA's

Fix the new holiday AL deal. If you work your holiday you can receive an AL at a later date but you don't actually get paid for the day you work? You should get paid that day plus an AL at a late day.

Those are just a few of my wishes.

Well...I like all the requests above, its all valid stuff, and would make life simpler for all of us. One thing that has bothered me MANY times since I started working here18+ years ago.....WRITE THE CONTRACT IN NORMAL EVERYDAY ENGLISH!!!! THEN....DONT WRITE A RULE TO ABIDE BY, AND THEN 3 PAGES LATER, TAKE IT ALL BACK. ITS CONFUSING...
😡😡😡🤠

All -- "What would like to see change in the new contract?"

-- A contract that has been ratified by the membership and ready to be implemented on the day after the current contract expires.

- National officers have to return to their old rural route for a week to observe how their "negotiating" skills have affected the current carrier under the new contract.

-- Some firm other than Peer, Gan & Gisler as legal reps

-- Escalating financial penalties when 120-Letters expire and no one has been hired.

-- Escalading financial penalties whenever manglement violates the contract.

1 pay table.

Allow rcas to use years toward retirement if they average a certain # of hours a week.

Get rid of bogus 60 day vacation rule where you need proof of vacation.
No, because if your in a mostly/fully staffed office your hours per week most likely wont be that much and your time to regular most likely will be longer. Do it the old way pre-1986(or so) You can buy back your sub time, they go back and look at how many days you worked as an rca and you buy back that time. IE, maybe you did 10yrs rca(raises hand) when they go back and look, maybe you can buy back 3-5years of time.

How about eliminating the "gray" areas, too!!

I was an RCA for almost 21yrs.

10 of which I worked 6 days a week (the last 3 I worked 7 days a week). would benefit greatly from this. If you haven’t already written your senators. It being re-proposed to congress, 69 representatives have signed on 4 months in. It took over a year to get that many the last go.

Get writing! Make this happen! Call, email, send letters! Make your voice heard! It can’t happen unless passed by the house.

Still I bet most people would love to buy back any time to help out.

I worked 6.5 years as RCA. I can bet money I would buy back at least 3 years minimum. Lot of newer RCA could buy back plenty of time with the shortage of RCA all over.

I wasn't advocating to not be able to buy your rca time back.

1. Significant increase to starting wage. We have to pay (significantly) more than fast food or we will never fill staffing shortages.

2. Rewrite the formula, its well beyond time. When the formula is calculated over the 15 station office, but the schedule made independently by the individual stations it causes problems. I'd also like to see an automatic reevaluation after every count (hopefully with the opportunity for each carrier to select a new day off by seniority as if becoming a formula office.) I know it suppose to be done within 30 day of any change... but it certainly hasn't happened in my experience. Hopefully with the stipulation that if management fails to maintain formula, then it is determined management doesn't think its needed anymore and everyone reverts to having Saturday off by default unless mutually agreed upon until the next count (when if management thinks its needed again can start the formula creation process again).

3. Penalty (200%) overtime anytime there are 'emergency circumstances' and management needs to 'mandate' carriers to work their day off. There are offices that have been in 'emergency' status for months if not years. Declaring a state of emergency needs some consequences it has become normal operating procedure far too often. If management declares an 'emergency' every gets paid the 200% rate (regardless if the volunteered or were on the RDWL) if its not a normal working day. (We don't want to penalize volunteering).

4. For each count, manage is required to provide us with the actual numbers used to calculate number used to generate our evaluations. And the formula to make/verify those numbers. No just calling somethin 'Complex' and leaving it undefined to rank and file.

5. Permanently change the maximum annual leave carry over to 65 days. Its been years, waiting in limbo every year to see if you have to schedule an extra two weeks of annual leave is an annoyance.

6. 'O' time accumulation (time spent waiting for vehicle repair) should be compensated as actual time in the pay period it occurs. Tracking it over years to accumulate 8 hour worth is pretty archaic at this point. At the least there should be a box added to the 4240 to official track this time. Arguing with management about vehicle break downs a half dozen years ago is a waste of both sides time.

7. If a route is evaluated at more than 48k. It should be paid as evaluated time until it is cut. In my experience manage is put no effort into providing regular daily assistance to overburdened routes. Essentially management is getting free hours of labor by delaying the cuts indefinitely and so they are not making adjustments.
