UPS SurePost volume shifts away from US Postal Service, Teamsters say

Are you suggesting something more nefarious?
How are you suggesting they forced the union to sign MOU's that are contrary to our contract?
Do you have secret insight into what forced the officers in union to sign these MOU's
Inquiring minds want to know.
I'm implying the only real defense our union has is if management goes against DOL or NLRB law or policy.

So management tells the union they have to do "this." And it's not against any law but potentially against the contract. If there's a stalemate, management can just go ahead and do it, and the process goes through grievance and perhaps ultimately to arbitration.

So how long before these surepost scans are no longer dual with the usps scAN AS WELL?
My guess is that they have the RIGHT to deliver them all themselves, BUT they can still offload onto USPS docks IF they choose as they still are in our offices (delivery supervisor at UPS says they will continue in this area for the near future anyway) the dual scans will remain for now.

I'm sorry, I misunderstood where you were coming from. I thought you were backing/defending the Unions Actions.
After this statement I realize that you are saying the Union that collects, what?, millions of dollars a year from it's members, is essentially useless and can't do anything. Sorry for the denseness I exhibited for not understanding where you were coming from, MY BAD

These poor UPS drivers. They wanted all that money, so their company buckled. Then, away go the profits, and stock sinks.
Time to make some corporate savings, and not pay USPS to deliver their crap. So, here you go, drivers:

Local ups driver wants to give it all back to us. I just say no thanks and thank you for delivering your own stuff now. He never realized just how much of his territory I delivered his packages. He went from 80-90 stops to 120-140 stops a day 🤷‍♂️. He also covers part of another of our routes, ups has 6 “rural” routes vs our 10.

I would love to get a map of ups routes and the territory they cover. Have a feeling our rural territory that is within city limits is not apart of their routes. I see a different ups driver in town for my route vs out of town.

He should probably call that tough Teamsters guy.

UPS SurePost packages are now being delivered by UPS drivers only, rather than a large portion of those parcels going to the U.S. Postal Service, a Teamsters union spokesperson told Supply Chain Dive. “Millions of packages moved away from SurePost and the United States Postal Service and returned to UPS package cars this month, now ... I’ve been wondering why our 10:30 am ups guy stopped showing up. Now that I think about it our 2:30 pm Dhl guy hasn’t been around either.

DHL is back in full swing here, just ups no where to be seen. Didn’t see DHL for a few days them bam 4 days of stuff 😞.

Teamsters got them the work back.
And guess what they will be paid for every package.
They have scanners that work. Vehicles that don't spontaneously burst into flames.
120 to 140 stops?
They always find the whiney blue haired millennials to interview.
Not to demean what we do . 140 stop for packages is not really that easy . In this peak season, the highest number of package stop for me was 80 . Plus 30 for my CBU stop . Plus 4 more for signature item and pick up a total of 114 stop . That was a 11.25 hr day

It is again an apples to oranges comparison to Monday thru Saturday mail delivery with DPS, Boxholders, Raw Mail and Flats as well as parcels.
The best comparison would be to Sunday Amazon.
The difference being UPS has far superior technology and equipment, and I believe someone else loads their truck for them. So they turn the key and go, And then every package listed on their scanner is actually on the truck, loaded in the correct order. And the directions or line of travel is the most efficient direct route.
None of this is the impression I get from RCA's delivering Sunday Amazon, and I'm relatively sure their stops are comparable.
Correct me if I am wrong, by all means.

But totally depends on where you are. In my town, it isn't that bad and 140 stops could be done in 5-6 hours depending how far apart they are.

Depends on which routes for Sunday holiday here. Our entire office worth rural side no way can one person do it under 12 hrs. 3 is our lowest number needed and that’s about 6-8 hrs each person. 200-300 stops each person.

Let us all know when you start seeing UPS drivers quitting UPS and The Teamsters to improve their lot in life by becoming Rural Carriers represented by the NRLCA

Let us know the other way around too after someone becomes regular
10 or 20 years ago it was unheard of for a regular to quit before retirement, barring major injury.
Now turnover among Regulars is not uncommon because conditions have deteriorated so much.
10 to 20 years ago a posting rarely if ever made it out of the office, let alone District Wide, let alone District Wide with NO BIDS.
UPS even seems to be able to hire Christmas time helpers.
How many Christmas Time Helpers did your office manage to hire?
