• Everyone, please help make our jobs easier and choose the correct category. Thank you

Is it really as bad as you all say?

Frozen Toes -- My "Honestly, that is a bit unsettling." response to an academy instructor with 20 years experience needing to email higher ups for things not known -- was in hind sight on the harsh side. My bad and apologies to the instructor and to all instructors.

-- I must have figured someone with 20 year's experience has been there since things began to go down hill and has been there for the USPS's latest and greatest ideas being implemented. Granted, carriers are still waiting on RRECS and route mapping.

-- The academy came about long after I began. The "golden age" for the post office, for my group, was in the last century, as in the late 1990's.

-- Anyone know if academy instructors get any special / additional training before stepping in front a new class of RCA's and ARC's?

From what I've heard, the academy training is pretty well scripted, and the instructors pretty much have to stick to the script...

That's one of the few parts of this job that I still like... My experience wth Academy was good, I loved hearing some details bout my new career, BUT like many of my previous experiences in jobs, you are new so you don't have a DARN clue what questions to ask lol ……...

Don't you all agree JFT has all the criteria needed to make it in this job? FIRST she found this site BEFORE Academy, not me, she asks intelligent questions, plus plus, she doubts that it cant be all that bad, plus , she wants to learn all she can and get good at this, plus, she has a positive attitude, plus, she wants to work, plus, she obviously has people skills, plus plus...……………...GOOD LUCK you got this......

Thank you. Seriously, thank you.

Do they the "academy" thing prior to actual work these days, or just the orientation? It would be a positive, I think.

I went to the orientation right up front, and alternately pulled my eyelids (stay awake) and hair (this is meaningless/useless), then worked 3 months before going to the "academy". By that time, it was all repetition.

I did orientation, Shadow day, then Academy.

The ethics videos were hard to stay awake for but I found everything else to be useful and interesting. At times we even had FUN! Shhhhh......don't tell anyone. ?

With that attitude; I'd say you're gonna be fine.

Good morning Postal family.
OJT starts today. Stay tuned to find out what happens....btw have a great freggin day!

Just remember every hour, day, week, month, ect… you work it will get easier & then all of a sudden out of nowhere it all makes since, you develop your own system and it gets easy. Its like anything it gets easier with time and repetition. Have a great day and best of luck!(y)

All new rural folks -- "Just remember every hour, day, week, month, etc… you work it will get easier & then all of a sudden out of nowhere it all makes sense, you develop your own system and it gets easy. Its like anything it gets easier with time and repetition ( and repetition and repetition )"

-- Honest, it is going to happen -- just like "Viglio-il mio" described!

-- Early on -- don't pay attention to the times your regular runs the route as he / she has probably been doing it for years and has a "system".

-- The learning process never stops for mail carriers ( mainly because new tasks are added with the scanners! ) Don't be afraid to experiment / incorporate if you see a carrier doing things a bit different from you.

-- Bottom line -- do what works for you.

Good morning. Life as an RCA has been going well so far. I think I really got lucky with my office and our management. The regulars all tell me we have a great PM and they also say before our current one it was not so great. I've found the PM to be very helpful. I think it helps that they were a carrier before becoming PM.

I Love my route! It's all country roads with beat up old mailboxes, horses, goats, cows, and the occasional peacock. Of course I stop to smell the metaphorical roses now since I am still learning the route. I've made so many mistakes so far and I've been met with nothing but graciousness from my office and the customers too! They keep telling me I'm doing a good job. My regular is really great also. I really like my job.

Happy Valentine's Day Postal Family ❤

JFT -- "I Love my route! It's all country roads with beat up old mailboxes,..."

-- Must be you are not in serious snow country! While you are taking the time to small the metaphorical roses, use a white marking pen to put the address number inside those beat up mailboxes. Any RCA who may fill in for you with thank you. Also will serve as reminder where you are when distracted by the sights and smells of the country side.

"horses, goats, cows, and the occasional peacock.."

-- With the abundant wild life, there will be more to smell than just the roses!

"I've made so many mistakes so far and I've been met with nothing but graciousness from my office and the customers too! They keep telling me I'm doing a good job. "

-- We all make mistakes. Do your best to eliminate them and your delivery times will get reduced and as a small bonus, will keep manglement and your customers happy.
