I've never heard of this. And, someone can correct me if I'm wrong, I thought I read in the RRECS guide that we are given x amount of time for reload based on the volume we have. This request would be additional to that time, so I would ask how you would be compensated for the additional work. 8127? Is it a regular occurrence that could be captured during mini count? If no additional pay, I'd have a talk with a steward and potentially file a grievance.

There is a requirement for moving all the mail behind the bulkhead when out of sight.

I’ll look for the documentation. Sounds like some idiot supervisor was looking for instructions on how to flush a toilet and stumbled upon it.
Or is trying to document/justify/create "work" for their job. Like the warning labels on dry cleaning bags, stickers on the ladder steps, etc.

We're going to end up like Britain where everyone that works outdoors wears day-glo jackets all the time. You'll be carrying wheel-chocks and orange parking triangles before you know it.

It's securing the mail. LLVs get windows smashed in when carriers are servicing an apartment, for example.

If its that bad, there should be a quick, devoted scan worth about 5 minutes to use just for this. Maybe even a "pin" on the RRECs map at complexes. Using Start Load/End Load all day would drive you nuts.

Still hard to wrap my head around Rural Routes in densely developed areas.

Just 'cause it doesn't happen to us doesn't mean it doesn't happen. Similar to when I see folks leave their car running while they go into the convenience store. Guess they don't believe it will happen to them or never been in the big city.
Mail Theft

Here’s one for the can’t make this stuff up department.

Stupidvisor meets carrier on route. They climb in the back of the LLV and close the bulkhead door.

Not really at an authorized (dis)mount location. 😳
While they’re in the back handling “packages” someone took a DPS tray of mail from the front of the vehicle and dumped it all over the cab area.

So, be safe. Put the mail in the back. Not the male in the back.

As long as they pay me fir it....

Personally, I want to see it in writing. I can work my 600 plus out the window deliveries basically out if the back of the truck to make them happy. Since I have to get every pkg & spr out of the back, then they can all go to the door. Load/reload 1tray of mail at a time to maximize security. Got it. Give them what they want!

I thought this request was only during lunch, not all day. Did I miss something?

Although it would be definately funny to rack up a compensation bill for "added security" for all day delivery, that was not my point at all. Lol!
Let me ask you this...

What about this request to secure mail in the back during lunch bothers you?
I load all my nbus in the back. In the front I have 4 trsys of dps, 2 trays of sprs, tub of flats and majority of parcels for my 600 del. I head out. Should I choose to stop and get a soda/sandwich or bathroom break I have to unload/reload all
that?
My truck is locked. If they want to rob me, me stopping and rearranging my truck in an insecure lot isn’t going to stop them.
Maybe black out our windows like our cars🤔?

Btw, it’s not even about ME. Curious for others in my office. I bring my lunch🤣

Gotcha.
Yes, what a pain in the butt. I stop at Dunkin before the route and yes everything up front would be a pain to move to the back and then move back up front.
I used the word request in my last post.
Here's the crappy thing. If they are ordering you to do it and you do not follow their order, then discipline could happen. Are you the only route being told to secure the mail like this?

If you have a steward in the office you can get them involved to sit with you as you discuss this issue with management. If you don't have a local steward then find which steward is assigned your office and let them know your concerns.
I found language in the handbook EL 814 pg 46 and it only states when parking we just have to lock the doors, no mention of putting mail in the back.
Hope this works out in your favor.
😊
I spoken to our DR who said huh? (,paraphrasing)
I agree with a prev poster - supers being petty. I found several references to securing mail, none of which specifically address moving. I am a former stew. I know my stuff. Like to see what is being done in other offices.
I always give ‘em what they think they want😁
