One of the rcas told management last week that he would be unable to work 3 days this week due to a sudden personal issue. I’m not sure but it seems they may have spoken and management agreed to give this person 2 days off. This person took 4 days off this week and management was not happy and felt like the carrier went back on their deal. This person didn’t use E LRA or the 800 number but instead called the lead clerk and said he would not be in. Carrier shows up today then disappears. Later we heard that management fired the carrier.
I’m not picking either side in this nor did I give any advice nor plan to to the carrier
I guess like any contract violation management can do what they want by firing someone in the spot. However I believe contractually there must be some kind of process unless a serious situation or insubordination. I would think a meeting with the carrier and steward (II) and a letter of warning or short term suspension would be the starting point.
I have no idea if the rca has already spoken to the union or plans to grieve this.
Just wondering how these things should go contractually
