Office walk distance dispute - conveyance

I’m curious how other offices interpreted this section. We have a disagreement with management in our office for Segment Number 10 on the Office Walk Distance sheet. This is what it states:

“Location of hamper or other conveyance for loading mail in vehicle.”

“From the point where the carrier stands when casing mail to the average point where the conveyance for transporting mail to the vehicle is stored.”

We argued that ‘conveyance’ is where the spare hampers are located, but management is arguing ‘conveyance’ is the spare trays and tubs. Trays/tubs is Segment Number 11. This doesn’t make sense, why would we measure to the trays/tubs twice? Also worth noting, this segment was by far our highest footage. What are everyone’s thoughts, how did y’all measure this?

Perhaps hand mgmt a dictionary have them look up the term conveyance. Remember, they don't have to be educated to be a manager.

It is for spare hampers or carts if they are stored for carrier use.
In my office, we all have multiple hampers or cages as well as a U-cart that is kept at our case. We do not receive this measurement.

Same answer as @gotstamps mentioned . We all have an empty pumpkin at our case . We bring the loaded blue hamper to our case from under package sorting conveyor ( we get that distance . Actually for 2 trips as most days most of us get some more in 2nd blue hamper ) . You can organize in your pumpkin . Most of us do that in the 1st blue hamper we bring . Load mails on top . In the meantime keep using the pumpkin to bring our DPS , flat tubs etc . If there is any full coverage like advos etc , clerks bring them to our case and leave it in the pumpkin . So we also don’t get the footage you are talking about

We get the distance from the case to the parcel hamper as well.
There are 2 hamper distances that are listed as possible:
The first is where your hamper is filled by the clerks in the parcel area. This is only 1 round trip measurement of the distance & is credited by the # of Pkgs received by the route; 1 trip is credited for every 62 pkgs.
The second is if there is a storage area for a “shared” hamper(s). Hampers or carts stored at our case do not count. This is only 1 measurement to retrieve a hamper for use. Returning it would be part of Loading Time.

Even if it's a second item, you should get at least 10 feet since you cannot stand on top of it to case. It must be located outside of your case.
Our U-carts fit inside our cases so no footage. Even if it sat at the outside of the case, that’s less than a foot away. We don’t get footage for what sits at our case for the routes use.

We got the distance to and from where the hampers are stored. The time we get for walking is so minimal it takes a lot of distance to amount to much time so our pm didn't reject anything with distance.

I get that it's minimal footage. However, the footage is credited from where the carrier stands to case now. And you can't stand on top of equipment. If it was me, I'd get the footage from ledge to outside of case. JMO. We had offices that carriers placed their conveyance in case at end of day. They still got footage. It might not be much but, 60 feet might be that minute a route needs.

I guess my pm is a good en then. We got footage from inside case, to where 1st hamper would be, then footage to where 2nd hamper would be (using farthest point of hamper from standing inside case) Plus he gave us withdrawal footage at farthest point of u boat for dps withdrawal (clerks bring ours, but generally place it on closest end of u boat to our case). If memory serves me, my u boat measurement was 12 feet….. much more than less than a foot.

And I’d flip out, if I ever walked in to my u boat sitting “inside” my case…. There’s barely enough room in there for 2 people (while training (it drives me nuts having 2 in there)…..

I suppose your case is orientated different than mine. I’ve got 4 cases making a box around me, with case 1 and case 4 moved apart a bit (not even a regular sized door width)…. No u boats fittin inside my case….

Only 3 cases here for the majority of the routes in my office. Only 4 routes have 4 or 5 cases. Many are down to 2 if they are all CBUs.
