See, I figure even with safe and conservative investments.... say you get even just 5% or 6% returns.... that's $50k or $60k per year per $1M.... I have some real estate investments as well, and am really not in a big hurry to sell them... between pensions, SS, and such, I figure I have enuf to meet my monthly living expenses without tapping our substantial retirement savings.... but, wth... there are other things to spend $$$$ on for fun....
Nope, I worked 2 full time jobs and or owned my own business since I was 18. Property was rental properties it let me put money away to buy more over time. That’s a big portion of the money financial advisor oversees. Before that I only had 200-300k in 401 k.
Side note I put making money above many things in my life. This included time with my son I regret it now. I have been prioritizing him above all else even with this job. I’m not a entrepreneur type of person I just work hard and never give up.
Few people will retire with 20 years so if it were say 10 years at % with match they had a to have a large route and now with RRECS cuts that is going to be harder

There are always a lot of different factors.... maybe the market will be the key, maybe something else.... I bought some real estate 30 years ago for like what now seems cheap.... probably is worth 10 times now what I paid for it back then.... we always tried contributing all we could to retirement accounts as well, so those are now substantial.... it takes time and work, unless you have a rich uncle who leaves you a big $$$$ chunk....
Not sure if you meant that 3 mil was in investment vehicles or what, but just plugging it into 4% 10 year T-bills would bring in $10k/month in interest income. (a year ago it would have been $12.5k!) Combine that with whatever pension or SS and you could spend time with family....If you're that old now.
You'll have to tell us some of your fave fishing stories (true?) sometime.... LOL.... I think my fave was doing deep sea halibut fishing out in the Aleutian Islands.... I think the tastiest fish I ever ate was a red snapper I caught during one of those trips....
Excellent article. I would guess the reason so many accounts seem low,by numbers, is because people are not staying in federal service for as many years now. That is no joke. I have a boat. The only reason I still have it is we lease it out to a service for charters to help with expenses.
I always heard the first $100k takes the longest, but I'm almost 1/3 through my career. As long as no long recession hits, or pandemic, I hope for compound interest to do it's thing...Also, if you look at that article @Wilco183 posted above.... take heart, you're already doing WAY better than most....

looking back...I probably should have turned down the liquor. It didn't end well. I just remember feeling G awful after that ride. My sides aches for days.
