VMF doing work

A few years back we had a guy come from vmf with a paint brush and house paint to touch up our llvs. All those touch ups are gray now.

Eh, it's a valid, quick fix, if mounting points got popped, without replacing the whole bumper/fender.

At least yours is being "fixed!" I just got back from vaca, had turned in a slip to have some issues taken care of just before I left. They took the Metris for a couple days (replaced with LLV....which is why I had the repairs done while I was gone). Nothing was fixed!! WTH did they do with it for 2 days!?!?!?!

Reasonable for it for sure. I wonder how much bumper would cost on METRIS? It ain't cheap I know that.

It is textured plastic bumper, bought wholesale they are less than $100. Us regular folks can buy them $173 on Rockauto. When this VMF "repair" fails and is dragging along a highway or falls off and could cause an accident the Postal Service should be sued for it. They endanger carriers by not repairing vehicles properly and then blame us for the automotive problems.
The real problem is that you see the shoddy work on the outside! The scary stuff is what they got away with that is hidden under the hood and chassis.

I Love VMF!
My llv broke down recently. Popped the hood and the carburetor was exposed.
No filter or cover/
It is better than the time they worked on the steering column and forgot to put the cotter pin in the steering knuckle.
I drove into a ditch uncontrollably.
Coulda killed myself/others.

I’m not defending or bashing the VMF peeps…but I’m under the impression that they all start out like the rest of us? Basically hired with no experience & are “trained” by the more senior “mechanics”. So basically someone who used to work at Target is now a “mechanic” at VMF. Good for oil changes & tires, but lack of experience & I’m guessing lack of training means we get zip ties & duct tape for parts. Not to mention, do they even make parts for llvs anymore?? Pencil in the carburetor it is lol
I don't care what the LLV looks like. I will not fight to make them look pretty. The Postal Service may worry about our image. Maybe they want to look poor, so the government will give us more money.

USPS has to go through sites like this (I think Jasper is the other provider) for parts. No way VMF is dropping $420 on a bumper or fender replacement. Also a lot of work is contracted out. VMF mostly tows, changes tires, and check fluids on Metris vans. VMF will work on LLVs, but I think all Metris work is done by the dealer or third party.
As silly as this looks (and I don't want to get into the rust/weather problems of zip ties and holes), this might have been the best option. Then again, my office just has a bunch of bumpers hanging off. Honestly, it works. Vans came in from factory with defects.
Most vehicles from Asia Pacific use plastic rivets instead. If anything breaks, it's usually a cheap plastic rivet. When anything breaks on a Benz Mercedes, the entire body part has to be replaced unless jerry-rigging is applied.
