Very nice. They showed their appreciation for your hard work over the years. The Postal Service can be a good place to work depending on which office you're in.

I used to try to make my office a better place to work... I'd take in donuts or other baked goods every week, and do stuff like that... but after doing that for years, here in the past couple of years, I've been slighted and $#!+ upon so many times, I have just lost the will to even try anymore... now I'm just in the keep my head down and try to make it to the finish line mode... I sometimes wonder if they think constantly $#!++ing on people is a way to make them more "engaged"???

Yeah, there's a lot of that in my office now as well... and we got a smile in your face and stab you in the back mngt geekazoid now, and that certainly hasn't helped... you know the type... they live to hang on EVERY word the POOM says, and wouldn't miss a telecon if their life depended upon it... think that carriers that have been doing the job now for DECADES need color by number directions every day... yada, yada, yada...

Thank you. Absolutely will stick around. Waaaaay too much rural carrier in me to just peace out. Loved this career till I blew out both shoulders, and mgt. got ridiculous. Probably the one most important takeaway I would like to offer to our younger generation of rural carriers is this- Without proper planning, a decision to retire early becomes tricky. I guess my best advice to new regulars is that once you recover from the table 4 wage loss shock, try try try your hardest to maintain the same level of take home pay by contributing every dollar you can to your TSP. When you get a step increase, or cola, ( yeah I know cola-what? haha ), increase your tsp by at least half of it. After you establish a pattern of living on the same take home it gets easier and easier. Don’t be a victim of “lifestyle creep”, and be another statistic due to poor planning. Invest in yourself. Due to reducing your taxable wages even just a $100.00 extra in your TSP may only result in a loss of $80 in take home pay. Compounding over your career, and not using your TSP as an emergency cookie jar could be your ticket to an early retirement. This job is no longer stuffing letters in a mailbox. Physically demanding requirements are breaking down our bodies at a rate like this craft has never seen. Plan for the worst, hope for the best, and retire on your terms. Ok, my hokey mom style rant is over. ?
My wife asks me why I still care. I tell her it's because I did it for so long. I think that after the new evaluation system takes effect (lol) and I see the result on the craft maybe I'll start to back off. For now, this is part of my morning routine after feeding the cats and making a pot of coffee. Maybe it will become part of yours.

I was just going to say the same, with the great picture brought back memories of how we used to be. Gee, we even went to baseball games and amusement parks and played baseball. SO SO SAD
update! last day today, went in as Santa, handed out candy canes and Santa coins, said my goodbyes, came off my route and the supervisor said hold on don't leave yet, station mgr came out with my retirement folder, congrats from the usps, handed it to me and said here you go, thanks for your service, and out the door I went.

Well, glad to hear the mngt bozos at least made some acknowledgement of your service... other carriers who have done it for awhile understand what it takes, and that it ain't always easy... in fact, most of the time it ain't... but those desk jockeys realy don't get it... again, all the best to you... enjoy it, you earned it...
