Aux route opening up. Advice needed

An aux route is opening up and it's about a 25 hour a week route. Bad thing is, it is going to be a POV route.

I've been a sub on a POV route for 5 years and wanted to go to an LLV route. Wisth this opening up, I dont want to lose those guaranteed hours but I do t want to have to use my car.

Should I take the aux route and use my vehicle or continue to be a sub but on an LLV route but not be sure of the hours I'd get weekly. And I think doing that, I'd get stuck with doing the junk routes when the regular wants off. But on the other hand, what the hell am I going to have to do when I get back.

What would you do?

P-S-E-N -- Options, options, and more options. In the end it will be your call.

-- Are you sure of getting the AUX?

-- What is the sub situation in your office?

A. Take a POV 25-hour AUX route?

-- You will be earning annual and sick leave ( based upon the number of hours you work ON THE AUX ) and EMA ( just as you do now, but more of it ).

-- Is your POV, which you have been using for 5 years as a sub, capable of handling the mail volume for the AUX route?

-- Thanx to the 2015-2018 contract, once you have completed your AUX route, manglement can utilize you basically where ever needed ( more hours ). That's what you will be doing when you get back from the AUX.

-- If your vehicle is in good mechanical condition and / or you are mechanically inclined or know a good mechanic, IMHO --take the AUX IF you are looking for more pay.

B. Sub on an LLV route?

-- Unless there is an primary sub opening on the Matrix for an LLV route, no joy there as you can't bump a sub from the Matrix.

C. Continue to sub on a POV route?

-- Pretty much limited on the number of hours available per week unless the regular takes annual or sick leave often, like Tuesday's after Monday holidays.

-- Are you often used to fill in on other routes? If not, can you find part-time work for the days you don't sub on your primary route?

Worst case scenario, print this out, cut it up and put in on a dart board. Blindfold yourself and fire away!

-- Good luck with what ever choice you make!

Lol@the last part.
I have been filling a vacant route for the past year.So even though I was basically the regular on the route, I was still having to help other routes nearly everyday. I was working 6 days a week and still helping. WOW lol

The route as of right now looks like it would be about 4 hours a day. 2 hours on the street I would assume. Which I do like. And I do like the annual and sick leave added to what I have ready accumulated.

One of the things I dont like is, I will be delivering in a subdivision. Mail trucks can get around cars that are parked close to mailboxes but my car will not. If there is a car close to a mailbox, I will be bring it back. That will be annoying.

P-S-E-N -- " If there is a car close to a mailbox, I will be bring it back."

-- Be sure to take a picture of the offending vehicle in relation to the mailbox - preferably with the license plate visible.

-- You know - a picture is worth a thousand words. And provides the PM / supervisor with some ammo should an angry customer call in about no mail.

-- Taking a picture can have some interesting side effects too. When shown a time-stamped picture of an offending vehicle, parents learned their daughter's boyfriend was visiting when the parents were at work!

This is a tough decision. Please remember that just because you are assigned to an auxiliary route doesn't mean you won't be required to help out where necessary on other routes in the office, as per the most recent contract. However, if your office won't make you work on other routes if your on the aux, then good for you.

Is the regular carrier on the route you're holding down about to come back to work? If so, I guess taking the aux makes sense.

I know opinions differ here on the board, and it depends on the route, but personally, I would be very reluctant to give up regular work on an LLV route for a 20-hour aux POV route.

You don't mention miles. If you are senior RCA and bid the route it's yours.

At the present time in my all LLV APO office there are 2 RCA's with years of seniority who will not bid on a 70+ mile POV Aux in RMPO because they don't want to purchase a POV large enough for this route. If what they state is true my RCA with POV large enough will win bid with less than 1 year in. My RCA with ride figures the mileage $ will off set repairs and maintenance cost. They are fortunate enough to be a DIY for most car repairs.

If you take the 5/1 option you will be able to cover the LLV route when this carrier takes AL/SL. So extra hours on LLV route will be available. If you take the 6 day option you will be married to the AUX.

In regards to bringing back mail due to blocked box. Current procedure in this instance is to note on top letter the date and issue and re case at end of day. You are to bring items back out the next day. With the alleged IE results going on I do not know how this will be factored into our EVAL. But with "COUNT" this could change a few letters into a Parcel Credit instead of a few letters and flats. If they had a parcel/scan item on this day more credit for the next day.

Without knowing the full IE results at this time you will be working steady and earning AL/SL while serving the AUX. The IE results might kill this AUX or make it bigger. By loss, I mean any time loss due to automation or time values, other routes in office have the rite to regain time from this AUX.

Not knowing your office situation or financial needs... either way you will be working 6 days a week if you want the AUX. My thoughts at the present time is for you to bid the AUX work the 6 days a week until the/if IE is implemented.

A potential bonus is if the IE kills this AUX you will be paid for AL and your SL goes into the bank if you are around long enough to win a fulltime route.

I was going to do the 5 / 1 option and the 1 being my current route which is a POV route lol

The aux is being built right now. No idea on mileage.

The funny thing is, these houses that are being put onto the aux route, get a ton of packages. For this route not to have an LLV is dumb. I will be making multiple trips a few times I'm sure. I guess they dont care about paying for the 2nd trip along with ema lol
