Auxiliary carrier and LWOP

Hello. I have a question about LWOP. I'm aux carrier in a small office. Is there any limit or disadvantages when I take LWOP? Our office has RCA to cover my route. Thanks in advance.

Not as an RCA. If something is going on preventing you from working, look into FMLA. If you're just trying to take a day here and there to save leave then you should be fine. Before going regular I took a couple lwop days so I could save my annual for later. They are worth more money for me as a regular and days are limited to gain. I'm trying to roll as much as possible to have paid time off if I need to because of unexpected emergencies or health issues. I only get 13 annual days for now and have 16.5 left. I plan to roll 7 to 10 into next year for annual. I'm building my sick leave too.

-- As an AUX, about the only disadvantage will be not earning annual and sick leave while taking LWOP.

-- Taking / needing extensive LWOP as a regular CAN have effects on earing annual and sick leave and even delaying a step increase.

-- If no one in the office kept the August 2015 issue of the national magazine ( LWOP was covered in the Question Box section ), should be available in the archive section for magazines at the NRCLA web site -- provided you are a NRLCA member.

Wow, thank you. I've just read the August 2015 magazine about LWOP as well. I guess I don't need to worry about so much since I'm RCA in AUX route.
