a little while ago i posted about a terrible rca. took 2 weeks off(reg was on medical, still is)because first his kids were sick, then he was sick. called in 5 minutes before start time, had to go home in the middle of the route, pretty much anything to go home when he wanted. So, about 3 months ago, he leaves at 9am, leaves his keys and id at the post office, and texts the pm that he quit. Now there is some sort of rumor he will be able to come back when a reg retires this summer. Can this be possible at all? because if he is able to come back, he would probably be my sub when I get the retired guys route...Im wondering if because he quit, and wasnt fired, there is some sort of loophole or something. really doesnt make a lot of sense. but they havent been able to find a new rca to even interview.

-- If the Assistant District Representative is not aware of the events, best to get the ADR up to speed -- ASAP.

-- Manglement will probably say there is nothing in writing ( aside from a "text" which can be easily deleted - probably ), so there is no "official" resignation.

-- One course of action could be to have the ADR ask District, since the RCA is question has not be in the office, nor heard from in a while, has manglement made any attempt to contact the RCA ( usually via certified letter or stopping by the last known address ) to ascertain his intentions? Best results come from having District asking those questions.

-- If not, then ask why manglement has not declared the wayward RCA as AWOL.

-- When the RCA left his keys ( what keys would he have anyways? ) and ID, was he on-duty? If so, how about "abandoning the mails"?

-- In cases like these, somehow the offending party seems to get the job back more often than not. Probably because the RCA has "something" manglement. Such cases are called "Knowing where the bodies are buried."

-- When you make regular, get on the RDWL asap (list should be going up 20 April -- otherwise 3 weeks before the start of the New Guarantee Year) and hit manglement with Code 5's as often as possible. That usually gets District's attention -- which unfortunately could lead to the offending RCA being returned to duty!

-- Has anyone in the office let it be known that they have seen the RCA?

said rca worked in a satellite office. we are assigned keys because no clerk is on duty when we get back.

what exactly is RDWL? and code 5?

rca was on duty when left keys/badge. but was still casing. had not left for the route. Not sure on the day he called sick in the middle of delivering the route.

Rca is from 30 miles away. no one in this particular office (that i know of) has seen/talked to him since. He does have one clerk friend who works from time to time in this cluster of offices. Her official position is that he got screwed. but then he was always getting screwed, just ask him.

johnwayne -- "what exactly is RDWL? and code 5?"

-- RDWL = Relief Day Work List

-- The equivalent of the city carriers' Overtime Desired List.

-- Being on the list tells manglement that you are willing to work your relief day. Of course there are lots of "in's and out's" if on the RDWL.

-- If you work your relief day and you request a Code 5 ( or DACA 5 ), you receive 150% of you pay and no X-Day.

-- A Code 3 ( or DACA 3 ) means you get 50% pay and an X-Day when you work your relief day.

-- An X-Day is a day off at a future date. Scheduling it depends of the time of the year.

-- Check the office for anyone who kept the 2018 April and September issues of the national magazine, as the RDWL is addressed in both.

-- Or search for "rdwl" in RI's KNOWLEDGEBASE Section at the top of the page.
