BEREAVEMENT LEAVE

Does the USPS grant its employees bereavement leave?
I mean, like a separate kind of leave - other than Sick, Annual, X days, etc.
My husband was a state employee and was given bereavement leave for the first 3 days and only used his Annual/Sick for the subsequent days.
I was gone for 4 days and thought I would have the first 3 days as bereavement and get to use X day just for the last day.
I am under the impression that federal government agencies have more perks than the state ones. ?
I have always teased my husband about it, LoL.
Am I wrong? ?

Sorry, but Bereavement Leave is only a RIGHT, not an actual Leave.
You can use SL, AL, or LWOP. X-days are scheduled by mgmt so if they allow you to pick “when” to use it, be thankful. As of yesterday, though, X-days must be used in the same Pay Period that they are earned until Dec. 21.

WONDERing WOMAN -- Sorry for your loss.

"Does the USPS grant its employees bereavement leave?"

-- Yes -- the NRLCA finally got it added to the contract with MOU #3 in the 2015-2018 contract.

-- Other postal unions have had Bereavement Leave for quite awhile.

"I mean, like a separate kind of leave - other than Sick, Annual, X days, etc."

-- It is not really a type of leave as you will have to use your own annual, sick, or LWOP ( and possibly X-Days ) for up to 3 workdays per MOU #3 to make arrangements, etc.

-- Probably consider it "head of the line" privilege when requesting leave.

"I was gone for 4 days and thought I would have the first 3 days as bereavement and get to use X day just for the last day."

-- What did you list on the 3971? Manglement was generous to allow you 4 days.

-- What did you list on the 3971? Manglement was generous to allow you 4 days.
Maybe because it was out-of-state, 2 states away, and travel time is 14 hours (one way).
Well, this is one of the rare moments my supervisors could actually be considerate. Plus, my sub has always been eager to work our route? after not being able to work in it for months. (I worked during my days-off for months so other routes could "borrow" her.)

Thank you guys, for your inputs.
What would I do without you?!?! ?
I'd be totally LOST.
(*this is what I always tell my GPS, too)

I put in for bereavement stated to use sick leave for 2 management imputed x days instead said it was management’s discretion. Can they use x for bereavement leave? I didn’t think they could do that for bereavement leave

Tammy -- "I put in for bereavement stated to use sick leave for 2 management imputed x days instead said it was management’s discretion. Can they use x for bereavement leave? I didn’t think they could do that for bereavement leave."

-- 2021-2024's MOU #3, in part: NRLCA represented employees may use a total of up to three workdays of annual leave, sick leave, or leave without pay ( LWOP ).....

-- Don't see any reference to X-Days being used.

-- Politely ask manglement for their "discretionary" reference to use X-Days for Bereavement Leave.

-- If you don't have an office steward, contact your Assistant District Representative ( ADR ).
