Can a sub holding down a vacant route be scheduled on other routes ?

This is my primary route. I'm estimating that the person has 30 or so Al, plus however long it takes to reassign a new carrier. I will probably receive a k day sometime during the week.
Can I be placed on any other routes during this time? Will my relief day have to float depending on the need of the office?
Thank you...

Travelingmailman -- "This is my primary route. I'm estimating that the person has 30 or so Al, plus however long it takes to reassign a new carrier. "

-- Going with your regular has or is in the process of retiring and is burning up 30 or so days of annual leave.

-- What is the date the regular will be officially retired and off the employment rolls?

-- The route won't be put up for bid until the regular carrier is officially of the USPS employment rolls. Assuming the route is not being considered from conversion, adjustment, etc,, manglement has 30 days to get the route posted. 10 days to award the route and 21 days to place the new carrier on the route. Usually less than 21 days as they like to have the carrier in place on the 1st Saturday of a new pay period.

-- While holding down the vacant route, you are entitled to the evaluation of the route, though manglement could pull you off to avoid overtime. ( Article 30.2.O )

-- Pulling you off your route to fill in on another route just adds to manglement's scheduling and overtime woes - IMHO.

-- Filling in on a vacant route should also get you out of Sunday Amazon delivery too. Step 4 ( S-106 )

-- Manglement has every right to mis-manage and they seem to take every opportunity to do so. That's according to my old Assistant State Steward!

If mgmt Schedules another sub on your Primary to work you on another route, GRIEVE it! You have the right to the Primary route when the Regular is not working AND scheduling you on another route breaks the 90-days for Leave-earning. Mgmt can allow you to work 6 days if they like but you are entitled to a “Relief Day” when holding down a route. If a Relief Day is Scheduled, the Secondary, Tertiary, or PTF should be Scheduled. Mgmt CAN move the Relief Day for an RCA to any day although The route’s Actual Relief Day does not officially change.

Everything here is accurate except, working another route. If you do work another route it does NOT break the 90 calendar days needed to get Leave Earning Status. If you do happen to get to the 90 days for LES then any days worked on other routes are not counted towards earning leave.

The regular is guestimating his departure at this point but looks to be in July sometime. I may get a couple months but won't hit the 90 day mark.
This is the most gravy route, high miles not a lot of mail and packages.... unfortunately I am going to be the only one who can run a not so gravy L route with no miles and a ton of mail and packages. Oh well looks like suck it up baby and cash in on the O.T.
Thanks everyone! Love doing the mail but hate when it does me ?

Sorry, forgot about the R-6. If mgmt REQUIRES an RCA to work another route within those 90 days, it will not count against them. This does not mean that it’s ok to choose not to work the Primary on a regular basis. This was to penalize mgmt for forcing an RCA off their Primary. Regardless, the Primary route comes 1st & should not be split or given to another Carrier.
