Career Paths

Hi all!

New RCA here.  I have lots of questions, but I’m sure you know that trying to get someone to sit down and answer them at the office is pretty difficult.  I’ll just post some here and if anyone has any knowledge or time to share, it would be very appreciated!

- My Main route will be at an office that appears to be sort of a branch of the office I applied at.  This smaller office only has one big route.  The PM has 9 offices under her (4 of which have carriers attached).  After my 1 year, would I be able to bid on positions (if and when they become available) at any of the offices under this umbrella?  Or is my only opportunity to make regular at this branch with one route?

- Besides making regular, are there any other career paths available for an RCA?  My background is in Management.  If I ever decided to pursue that route, I couldn’t advance from an RCA position could I?  Am I correct in understanding that I’d have to apply for some other type of position and resign from my RCA appointment?

- Once I’m up to par, am I limited to the offices I can farm myself out to?  Or could I technically fill in at any (Greater Indiana District) post office?

My Main goal is to work as many hours as possible and make money.  And benefits in the future would be nice as well (which is why I’m interested in quicker career paths).  Thanks in adavance for any help!

You will be able to bid on any regular route under the APO's (main office) umbrella.   Be aware that anyone with seniority will win the bid, but you never know...if someone bids incorrectly, you could end up with the route.  Go to this site's knowledgebase and bone up on the bidding process.

Not limited at all!  Sometimes by doing so, you can luck out and find an office where there are older regulars who will be retiring and you can transfer in as an RCA.

Good luck!
