--  As with most everything else, it depends.

--  A District Pre-Count Conference / Meeting can take hours as the leader(s) cover a lot of subjects.  And carriers have lots of questions, especially when carriers from one office discover how things are done in another office.    One of my old state pre-count mail guides was 29 pages long and that covered all of the column entries, the important dates, disagreements over mail pieces, the use of the count "ruler", High-Low Option, route inspection - and so on.   Usually there was a need for a break.

--  The office Pre-Count Conference / Meeting is much shorter.  Some suggest / recommend 20 minutes, which might happen is no major disagreements or surprise items from manglement are presented - like "Oh, by the way, we are going to change the way such and such as been done for the past 20 years."

--  If significantly over 15-20 minutes, it will most likely disrupt the rest of your work day especially if manglement reminds you to be "Back by 5!", so politely ask for payment via the 8127 or 1314-A for the additional minutes.

--  If told "NO!", may consider smiling and filing.

It varies. Depends on the person giving the class and the questions from the group. 2 to 4 hours.

The most recent one last week was 3+ hours. Those who went bitched, no drinks or snacks served. So bring something JIC to hold you over. 

If this your first count you should learn a lot. If not boredom will kick in from questions from others you know the answers to. If they have copies of the count guide grab one. You might be blessed with a real bean counter or a retired carrier with little training as to changes made. It has come in handy to cite references over issues by the end of the day for me.  Good luck with count. 

I get to opt this one out. All other routes in office are counting and near L status.

If they will keep the meeting on task and make everyone hold questions until the end; about 2 hours.  

Of course, a lot of these get derailed by people that will come to air grievances instead of going to union meetings.
