Going out on Maternity

I'm a PTF going out on maternity. Since I won't be available for several weeks to run my PTF routes management is now telling me that they are likely going to take one of my PTF routes away from me since the regular carrier for the route is out frequently and they really need someone who is available to cover it. Part of me feels like I am being punished for having a baby, is management allowed to do this? I really like the route and being the sub for it since it basically guarantees me hours I would really hate to lose it.

Another question unrelated: I understand that there is a form you can request to try to get AL/SL donated to you from other carriers? Does anyone know what this form is called and who I have to ask for it?

Last question: I applied for FMLA so I don't have to worry about being fired, PM assured me that it was sent to Human Resources and the district. How long does it take for FMLA to take effect/when will I hear back from them that it has been approved and how do I find out if it has been approved?

Thanks in advance!

You'll get a case # for FMLA and it can be back dated if you were to have the baby before you receive it.

Usually leave donations for long term illnesses where the carrier has exhausted all their leave and has to be approved by HR.

I don't know if you can stop them from taking a route off your string; but you should have 2 at minimum; I agree not fair.

Congrats on the baby; just concentrate on that for now.

Changed my mind, I think this may be an EEO complaint.  How are they going to cover your other routes; that one should be covered the same way, even if it needs more coverage.  Call a steward.

Guin -- " Since I won’t be available for several weeks to run my PTF routes management is now telling me that they are likely going to take one of my PTF routes away from me..."

--  Step 4 ( P-115 ) - page 2 -- in part..Management may add or remove routes from the PTF assignment at any time, provided the number of assigned routes does not fall below two ( 2 ) routes, or exceed five ( 5 ) K routes.

"....since the regular carrier for the route is out frequently and they really need someone who is available to cover it."

--  IMHO -- a lame excuse, but see above and Article 3.

"I understand that there is a form you can request to try to get AL/SL donated to you from other carriers?"

--  See MOU #17 ( Leave Sharing ) of the contract.

--  Also see the ELM's Section 512.64 -- Annual Leave Sharing

--  And EL-510-2003-2 ( Annual Leave Sharing Program ) 12 pages ( short version ):

a.  Donating Leave -- complete part 1 of Form 3970-D ( Request to Donate Leave )

b.  Establishing Eligibility for a Recipient of Donated Leave -- complete part 1 of From 3970-R ( Request to Receive Donated Leave )

c.  How to Use Donated Leave -- submit Form 3971 ( Request for or Notification of Absence ) noting "Donated Leave"

"How long does it take for FMLA to take effect/when will I hear back from them that it has been approved and how do I find out if it has been approved?"

--  Sorry, don't have an answer.  Anyone??

BTW -- congratulations.

Can change; but the point is here that the PM is specifically changing it because she's pregnant, dangerous territory and if this route is such a problem, it should have already been dropped and an RCA assigned to it specifically.

First off, CONGRATULATIONS!

Next, it usually doesn't take very long for FMLA to take effect. Check with HR and ask if they received the paperwork. Doesn't hurt to double check.

Finally complications can occur so it's best to be prepared financially as well as with insurance.

Good Luck!

Because I just got FMLA paperwork in the mail myself, here is the phone number listed on my paperwork,  it says you can call with any questions:

1-877-477-3273 option 5  that is HRSSC FMLA office

I acutally received paperwork in the mail a few days after requesting a day off for FMLA, I thought I was still covered by paperwork we submitted in January but apparently that only covered husband surgery dates not follow up appointments that he can't drive himself to, 3 hours away.
