Health Coverage vs. Hours Worked?

PointA2B

TL;DR - Will I lose my health coverage if I fall below a certain number of hours worked per week?

- - -

Our district has gone on a hiring spree. Our station has nearly 40 RCAs now, with a posting for hiring more...

As a RCA, I have gone from 5-6 days scheduled to 2-3 days...

Will I lose my health coverage if I fall below a certain number of hours worked per week? If so, what is that number of hours?

PointA2B -- " Will I lose my health coverage if I fall below a certain number of hours worked per week? "

-- This is from the RI Thread from 05 MAY 2016. health insurance options for rural carrier associates.

-- Prior to the 2015-2018 contract, RCA's needed to work 30 hours a week to qualify of health benefits.

-- With the signing of the new contract, all RCA's are now eligible for this plan ( FEHB ), however there are still some criteria to be met:

have competed 1 year of continuous service

have a predetermined tour of duty ( assigned to a regular route ? anyone? )

have sufficient earnings to cover mandatory withholdings and premium deductions

RCA pays full premiums / No USPS contributions

Can chose any plan

The May / Pre-convention 2016 issue of the national magazine had an article about the USPS Health Care Benefits Plan ( USPSHB ) in which all non-career employees except ARC's would automatically be enrolled in the USPSHB Plan.

RuralMunky -- You've posted on the subject before, care to add something?

The USPS will contribute it you chose the USPSHB Plan. The article included premiums for Self Only / Self Plus One / Self and Family.

I would think only working 2 or 3 days a week might challenge earning enough to meet premiums. Anyone??

To add to the confusion, the "unofficial" initial 2015-2018 contract had an MOU dealing with Non-Career Employee Health Benefits, but it did not make the final cut.

Article 21 - Benefit Plans on page 40 of the new contract just deals with the USPS contribution to the FEHBP.
