Jeeps and Warranties

Hey y'all,

I'm going to be converted to reg sometime in the next month for a rural pov route. I really don't like the idea of straddling an SUV or using one of those sketchy conversions for doing this full time. I had previously been using an old rhd jeep that kicked the bucket a month back.

Thinking of buying a new RHD jeep and getting a mopar extended warranty on it. I know they can officially void the warranty if you use it for postal work. My question is has anyone here struggled to get their warranty honored for their POV?

Update: So apparently I was incorrect on the warranty being voided for postal vehicles so long as you are using a Chrysler manufactured vehicle. Thanks for all the helpful responses and I look forward to being an involved member on this forum :)

You may want to check resales first. Lots of carriers still have vehicles they are trying to sell after retirement or rt gov in last year. Btw, if you do buy one - get the incentive in writing approved or they can toss you a gov in the next 3 years and you would eat the cost of that vehicle.

Thanks for the reply. I have already filed notice under MOU 8 and am shopping around while I wait for it to be authorized. Problem is I'm based in upstate NY and it's really difficult to find much around here that isn't brand new.

Strictly speaking from a mechanic point of view, if your old jeep is a 99 or older 4.0 cherokee, you are financially better off repairing it. Jk and up wranglers have faulty wiring, poor transmissions, and will develop all sorts of weird problems once the warranty period is up. I have heard carriers and non carriers alike get the run around from Mopar on honoring warranties. Even if they do honor it, sometimes the parts are on back order for months.

unclewolverine, or anyone i need a fan to cool the radiator for a 1996 jeep cherokee, not available through mopar anymore, please help anyone? standing in front of jeep its on the left side but i would take a complete assembly if i have to.

@Postal Feller I currently have a new vehicle with extended warranty. I purchased commercial warranty directly from the manufacturer via the dealer who absolutely did not want to sell it to me.

Here's what I did when shopping. I called the company warranty HQ, and talked with a rep. They can't sell the warranty, so no worries about being lied to. Ask if they sell commercial warranty, what are the terms, and if postal vehicles are included. Then ask for a mailed/emailed copy of the plan and read it.

You will not find any information on commercial warranties online. Just know the mopar or flex warranty commercial will be the same as their maximum care, but a little more expensive. Prices are negotiable! Don't pay full price, shop around. I got a few quotes from around the country, and when negotiating I pulled out my quotes. And said "I'll buy the warranty from you if you can match Bob's price" and they did.

You'll have to maintain the service schedule to keep your warranty. And have receipts, whether the dealer or wherever. Fluids/air filter.

And if the manufacturer of RHD Jeeps sold specifically for mail carriers excludes postal use from their commercial warranty...I wouldn't be surprised. Just know some other manufacturers do allow postal use under their commercial warranty.

Terms for most are 8yr/125,000 miles. I lowered mine to 5yr/125,000.

That particular piece is why I'm looking at surfs vs another one of my beloved cherokees. That piece is discontinued completely. If you can find a used bracket that isn't broken, a shop can press in a new bearing, but it seems that no one even supplies a quality bearing for it anymore. I have gotten by by using two of the factory electric fans wired to a relay triggered by the factory thermo switch and a override switch on my dash. There is also a triple fan set up available on amazon.Amazon. Still a better choice than any jeep newer than 06.

I purchased a used rhd 2015 jeep wrangler and the max care warranty. Service department tried telling me sales should have never sold me the warranty because Jeep is being used for work. Anyway, I did some digging, and as long as the rhd jeep is manufactured in the United States, the warranty is good.

Warranty is where most dealers make their money on a sale. They always say it's a set price. I just bought another new vehicle and I had quotes of 2900-5400 for the exact same 8 yr/125k warranty between dealers. Ended up paying 2400.

That's the electric fan which is widely available. I'm talking about the bearing hub bracket for the belt driven fan. Cherokees have both. The belt driven is the main, the e fan is the aux mainly for ac.
Ah ok.

Is it this thing?

That's the one most rhd cherokees would use, mine is a 95, 94-95 was different and even more rare. Notice that one is 420 bucks, and just as old and crusty and about ready to fail as any other one. I'd spend the hundred bucks on the triple electric fan and be done with it.

I am a retired carrier in upstate NY with a 2016 jeep rhd that would love to be running a route again.
