Stupid Rural carrier

Well-known member
Twenty some years ago I started at the usps, I thought I had found a good job with good pay, benefits, and an awesome retirement. Years went by and I was good at my job, I did it well and one of these days I’d be full time and I’d have it made. I’d be regular with my own sub, put some money back and retire. Then I woke up! Everything has changed. What do nice was the best job around is now mediocre, subs are hard to come by, and I’m now basically a city carrier. I know for the new folks they don’t realize what us old folks are complaining about but this isn’t what I was promised. I didn’t want to be the Amazon man with a tracker strapped to my side, I didn’t want to have to wonder if my leave would be approved, I didn’t think I’d have to worry about being paid less and do more. I definitely didn’t think they’d micromanage me right out the door. But all this is what we have and they can’t even figure out why nobody wants to do it. I’m not sure what the future holds in this place but I do know it’s not that promising. I hope I’m wrong

I know exactly what you’re talking about, I’ve heard many stories, this place has changed a lot just in my time. I can tell you from a younger persons perspective, and I can’t speak for everyone, but every single job I’ve ever had, the people who’d been there a long time, always talks about how much better it used to be for a multitude of reasons. All I can say is, a lot of us never got to experience a work environment like that, unfortunately.

I've been with the past office 25 yrs. And never seen it as screwed up as it is now. Work hard with less benefits. I'm so confused how after fighting them telling them that my route was supposed to be a K for months now, I finally got it on Feb 11th. Still had to work 5 out of the 8 Saturdays I was suppose to be off and now I find out today they dropped me back down to a J route. I haven't had a sub in at least 6 yrs. I'm so over all this crap and lies they tell to try to manipulate you into believing that it's all OK.

I have been with the PO since '94. SO MUCH has not only changed but is just TOTALLY different. We used to have DJSCs and QWL / EI and other "things" that at least sorta kinda' worked. They did , at one time , treat us HALFWAY decent. Just the other day, I brought some "old" STEP 1 settlements from the 90s regarding REMOVALS. These removals were for things like hitting a mailbox and stuff like that......nothing like people were stealing or doing anything like dumping mail. Anyway, these letters of removal that came from the District we were in at the time were RESCINDED at STEP 1 like they are supposed to be ; at the lowest level. Good workers with an overall good to great work / attendance / safety record. They just made a mistake ; that's it. No need to fire a good employee. Back in the day, a Postmaster had some clout and could make a decision. Now, my PM needs permission to order rubber bands.
