Leave Earning Designation 79

If you are a designation 79 for over a year running an auxiliary route and transfer to a different auxiliary route do you have to cash in the leave earned on the auxiliary route you have been running for over a year and then have to work the new auxiliary route for 90 days again before earning leave on the new auxiliary route?

Cliff Clavin -- "If you are a designation 79 for over a year running an auxiliary route and transfer to a different auxiliary route do you have to cash in the leave earned .."

-- If you went directly from one AUX to another AUX ( without passing GO ), there would be no break in your leave earning status., so there should not be any cashing in of annual leave or 90-day period.

-- Is manglement saying something different?

-- Should be a new Form 50 with the new route number and route specifics such as miles and hours.

That's exactly what was done to one Designation 79 that went directly from one aux route to another.

One other question. When a designation 79 switches from one aux route to another shouldn't they be shown as the "carrier" on the route they switched to rather than showing the route as "vacant".

The designation 79 RCA is still being shown as the "Carrier" on the route they transferred from although they haven't ran it in quite some time.

Perhaps some "Good Ole Boy" sh!t going on....

-- Probably just an "oversight" by manglement.

'The designation 79 RCA is still being shown as the “Carrier” on the route they transferred from although they haven’t ran it in quite some time."

-- The RCA who took over from former AUX RCA should show manglement the his/her new Form 50 listing him/her as the carrier of the route.

-- Manglement personnel have much more important things to do that keep the 4240's up to date with the current carrier / sub / or accumulated work hours of both -- at least in my last post office.

-- If manglement does not update the next 4240, contact the Assistant District Representative who might be able to "encourage" manglement to do the right thing without having to come to the office.

Hello, I am running into this same issue with PM. EXCEPT, I am a des. 79 for over a year who is converting to a career employee and taking a different route. I’m being told by PM that I can’t take leave (AL, SL, LWOP) for 90 working days. Is this true that I have to complete this period over again?

i know a Des. 79 covered a route for a carrier out on extended sick leave for a year. After 90 days, that 79 was eligible for earned leave. Carrier never did come back and the 79 went REG. But after the first 90 days, they did earn AL. I believe that may be "Holding down a Route"? A little tidbit some may not know! Management didn't know either and that AL was retroactive back to the 90-day point.

should have been moved from 79 to a des 74 after being on the route for 90 days....... and AL and SL goes back to day 1 not 90 days.

You can’t use your annual but you’ll be able to use sick. All new regulars can’t use annual for the first 90 days.

nope.

if you are an aux carrier with no break in service, you are allowed to use your leave right away. sick or annual. you've already earned it as an aux and it carries over when you make reg.

@Bigmailhog3 - call eagan. 866-974-2733. they know more about our contract than your PM, guaranteed. been there, done that many moons ago. take your leave, you'll get paid. and if you don't, call them back and they'll straighten it up. :)

oh, and file a grievance too just to make your idjet look like the idjet he/she is.
