and yet the fools in management work in their air conditioned offices or go home early to their air conditioned homes while making stupid decisions like "let's change start times way later because God forbid we make the plants do their jobs and get the mail to offices by 5 am so carriers can get on the street to get out of the heat in the summer or not work in the dark in the winter. and oh he-- no, we ain't paying for any stinking water! i won't get my bonus!!"

back in the '80s, even early 90s, they told carriers to come in early on hot humid days. it wasn't a suggestion or a need to ask. carriers still did normal hours, no overtime unless necessary or a call-out. back before things became so contentious nalc and apwu broke the hourly model.
 
btw, anyone find it odd the NALC is the one to alert media to this death of a rural carrier?
it would appear older workers and heat don't mix. fire and police departments have known this for decades allowing early outs for 50+.
and yes, let's all thank them for saying their thoughts and prayers are with his family but, we don't know it's the heat we forced him to work in that precipitated his death🙄

well, they got rid of all the old school postmasters who had sense.

now we are stuck with people in managment who have no business being there.

I know I don't handle the heat well at all, anymore. I used to manage and adapt.
Im in my 50s and its a big difference for me. The heat takes my breath away and I'm drenched in sweat after a few minutes.
Even with AC indoors I have multiple fans on.
I feel for all the carriers still suffering through this job. And the ones working out of the LLV where the temps are even higher.
You're all in my prayers.

The craft workforce is definitely aging. That said - mgmt is getting younger with very little practical exposure to the outside conditions.
It's mostly people who don't connect the physical conditions to injury or deaths causing the problems. Carriers need to speak up. If they think they are experiencing an issue - call 911. Text the iffice if you want. But, get help before you lose consciousness or cause organ failure with body temps of 104F+. I'll take the ii, discipline attempt or whatever over dead every time.
 
As some have said, this place is getting !@#!$ING STUPID TO WORK FOR.

Keep pushing back start times and then they wonder why people get heat issue??? I mean I haven't been here that long, but I remember when they would actually TELL US TO COME IN EARLY AND START EARLY IF HOT, HOLIDAY, COLD, and etc.

Now we have bunch of maroons who don't care. I just laugh how we just get !@#$@%ING SLAMMED after holiday and can't come in early. Just remember you clock in 1 min EARLY, YELLOCON AND BAD EMPLOYEE AND ETC, but 20 mins late NO PROBLEM!!!!!

Just lack of any sort of sense or reasonable accomodations has gone by the way side.
 
Poor guy pulled over at 12:20. 911 was called just after 2:00, which means he baked in that LLV for an hour and 40 minutes.

So much for the standing still alert that should have been generated by the scanner. Neciat's video didn't say who finally called 911.

To add to ABCya's post, older people are also more likely to be taking any number of prescription medications that can also make them less tolerant of the heat.
 
I did notice the thermometer in the news story was at or real close to 110. And that's NOT including the heat index. Anyone that has used the LLV knows that it is MUCH hotter in that vehicle than it is outside. I've had my dog spray hiss at me on a few occasions because of the heat in the LLV.

I suspect...but I can't remember...did our union raise hell a couple years ago when it was revealed that hipp training was being falsified on a nationwide scale?
 
What about the reports of ac being turned off just to push carriers to the street quicker. Should be an outcry towards your local representatives/senators.
