More rural postal workers in the US speak out about thousands in lost wages due to new compensation formula

Yeah, that fourth leg is looking pretty awesome on medical front.

Its a huge savings on health care, I've never had health care with the USPS, Been on TriCare for years, self plus one for under $700 per year. Soon to be free as my supplemental coverage to go along with Medicare. It was well worth the investment of time served, I was smarter than I though when I was younger.

I had lunch on Sunday with friends. A group of professionals were at the next table over. They started asking questions about employment at USPS. They received an earful. And they absolutely thought we were lying about not getting a 90% salary retirement payout.
We actually had to show them the fers page and the salary table. They were horrified.

And then, a fellow Steward started telling them about the unpaid, It's included, hours
I think they left the restaurant more outraged against the USPS on our behalf than we were.

They all worked for versions of county and state govt. Fantasy pay. But, they did promise to be nicer in future to the few people left delivering their Amazon and unmentionables.

You lost me. What is a 90% salary retirement payout ? Is that what someone under CSRS gets with 45 yrs of service ? And what are the unpaid, it’s included hours ? TIA

When asked about our pay system to others...

Ask them if they know about Piecemeal pay before mentioning Evaluation pay.

The 5 will get you the match. However, in reality, 20% is what you should hope for to cover inflation and long term goals in retirement. 5% won't last a 30 year retirement.

Good luck doing that as a Table 2 regular in even a moderate cost of living area.

I still love seeing the people comment about (if you click the link) about you should have done your scans.

Hundreds if not thousands of people did do the scans and did them right and still lost several hours or more. Ridiculous time standards that are killing us. Oh yeah I guess federal time standards don't matter here.

Great point !! While the average person on the street has no clue as to what DPS is, they DO know what a letter is. And, they DO fuel their vehicles.

They know that they can't read/ verify 86ppm..shute...Google professional speed readers ..neither do they

You may be able to for 1 minute but after that there's no way you can maintain a pace like for 800+ letters ot more. I've tried and time myself for couple weeks when I was in light office and I was averaging between 40-50 letters. 40 on heavier day. Light day was 50.

And most of us have 2400+..you have to ask why clerks and city carriers have 1/3 the rate of speed fir rhe same function....

Exactly. You can't maintain that average at all. The 43 was maybe a tick high, but it was much more reasonable than the current expectation.

I am waiting to see what happens on city side if they adjust their PPM to verify or not. It would only be fair. If they don't then what little fight that is left in the union needs to fight that everyone else has lower values, why are we higher.

Most of old federal govt employees, prior to service in 1989, were compensated up to 90% of working salary as a pension.
The "unpaid included" is everything they tell us we get zero additional pay for because...its included. Things like running parcel trips, training others, deviating from normal procedures, dismounting for blocked boxes, watching training films, long rrecs verification interrogation in the mornings, etc.
All things never included in rt pay. Oh, yeah - and the 12 second payment for 7 minute traffic lights. That's my personal favorite. Also why I'm leaving. Rrecs did diddly squat for heavy traffic rts. The system is an abject failure for the suburban/ city rts it was supposed to help.

I think you will see many rurals hire into other crafts if they choose to stay with usps. Rurals aren't very viable for an employee under this system. And you will probably die young trying to work more to gain money. The same money a city carrier makes in 5 days or less.

From what I have read I am left with the oppinion that their would be a great influx of parcles to an already over loaded USPS durring the strike. Would this cause safety concerns? Longer hours? Team lift of packages with imagenary beings? Working in the heat?

Always appreciate your thoughts fyi! But this line here is a double edged sword.

I'm a suburban router...700+ boxes, 1/4 cbu, 16 miles, supplement Amazon. When I first started, I always envied the more "rural" routes. I always felt that they had 1/2 the mail, 1/4 the parcels & just drove around enjoying the countryside....for the SAME EVALUATED HOURS. Basically, in my mind, they had it easy peasy.

Enter RRECS...as of right now, I feel I'm being compensated MORE fairly compared to those "rural" routes. All those parcels to the door, all the dps wss/wsh mailings, DRIVE SPEED MATRIX (HUGE IMPACT!)...it all added up to level the playing field.

To sum it up, I feel the suburban routes finally got their payday for all the extra work we do. When my hampers are overflowing, I no longer stress about it. Now it's ChaChing!!
