My RCA hiring process, timing

Wanted to share my RCA hiring process timing. When applying, I tried finding this info but found that it varies GREATLY from person to person. In the Sierra Coastal District.

Application entry - 23 April

Invited to take Exam 473 - 23 April - at third party testing facilities

Exam results - 28 April

Motor vehicle record search - 2 May

Interview - 28 June

Background check, drug testing, job offer - 11 July

Employment forms, fingerprinting - 27 July

Background check - 1 Aug

Orientation - 4 Aug

That's about in line with what mine was. The good news is that that's a preview of what this job often is. Hurry up and wait.

Back in the day it took me 6 months. Now the RCA's in our office are hired in a couple of days and then go to training in a couple of months. When they start they have had no training.

My new RCA story.

They were an HC sub. Background check, fingerprinting, drug testing done for this run. 

Jumped HC ship end of June. All they had to do again was drug test. First available training Aug 14th to 17th. Comes back for shadow day. Next training date for LLV and completion of class is week of 9/11. Comes back for case and ride time 9/18. First day solo on run is 9/25. 

Reason for long time span is to many applicants, not enough trainers. Had to break groups of newbies into 2 alphabetically by last names due to Labor day week.
