In a non formula office, if regular carrier and management agree to switch the carrier's relief day, does it need to be at the beginning of the pay period?
or you can take the tuesday off, after the holiday, and avoid the extra days mail, and still end up with three days off. i love having monday as a relief day...Keep in mind that anytime there is a Monday holiday your holiday will move to Saturday. (if you switch to Monday relief) Since your office sounds like it will still be short subs they can force you in on your holiday (Saturday) prior to going to the RDWL. There are not that many Monday holidays but if you want a long weekend when one does roll around make sure you schedule a day of annual for the Friday prior then you can't be forced to work your holiday.
i love the monday relief day. all legal and dr. offices are open, so you can do any business that you need. pre corona, the stores were empty, making shopping more enjoyable. some restaurants are closed on monday, but those that are open, aren't as busy. even given a saturday relief option, monday would be my first choice.I am the first carrier considering switching. We had 5 RCAs. One is going regular on an H route, bid closes Aug 2. We just lost one RCA to CCA, young man trying to support a family - smart move for him - he covered the 2 J routes. The 3 we have left were covering the other K routes. I am the junior regular K, one J is below me in seniority.
I have been working my K for DACA 3 and management let's me choose my X day. BUT, I know contractually, management can just schedule my X day and I don't just want a random day.
I will put my request in writing tomorrow. Thank you for the answers!!
