If a PTF is assigned to only K routes how does that work if the route goes to J during seasonal times. I thought they had to be on a year round K?

Part Time Flexible’s are used in rural craft also. Generally in offices using formula and every attempt was made to hire RCA’s. They can be used minimum of 2 routes and maximum of 5 routes.

I know PTF’s are on rural side also that wasn’t my question. According to the contract they are to be on a K route how is that affected when the k route goes to a J during seasonals?

Queen bee -- "According to the contract they are to be on a K route how is that affected when the k route goes to a J during seasonals?"

-- Step 4 ( R-95 ) sort of addresses that situation - in part:

If the PTF is assigned a K route with a non-Saturday relief day that changes classification to a J route, the route's relief day will be changed to Saturday and will be removed from the PTF's assignment.

-- Step 4 ( P-120 ) also might be used - in part:

If the number of K routes decreases in the office, and the office no longer has two ( 2 ) K route assignments for a PTF position, manglement will adjust routes upward as needed to create a K route(s) assignment for the PTF, PROVIDED there is territory available from overburdened or auxiliary routes.

-- Step 4 ( R-31 ) -- in part: a part-time flexible ( PTF ) position will be established, PROVIDED the PTF will be assigned at least two ( 2 ) K routes primary leave replacement assignments.

-- Article 30.2.A.3 -- The establishment of a part-time flexible rural carrier is at the discretion of the Employer [ as in the USPS giveth and the USPS taketh away ]. However, management is required to establish such an assignment when hiring efforts have been unsuccessful following the regular carrier's request, PROVIDED the part-time flexible rural carrier will be assigned two ( 2 ) K routes.

-- The PTF position will cease is there is not 2 K routes in the office.

-- In view of the above, I'd still contact your Assistant District Representative.
