Question about Leave Earn Status

lovehawkins2003 -- "Is it 90 working days or 90 calendar days to start earning Leave time on a route I’m covering?"

-- If you are filling in for a regular carrier who will be absent for a long time or on a vacant route, you begin to earn annual and sick leave on the 91st day.

- Article 10.5.A. Substitutes and rural carrier associates shall earn leave benefits when serving a vacant route, or when serving the route during the extended absence of the regular carrier in excess of 90 days. On the 91st day, the employee shall be credited with annual and sick leave for the first 90 days.

-- 90 working days is one of the requirements for completing one's Probationary Period. The other being one calendar year.

- Article 30.2.B.1 The probationary period for a rural carrier associate shall be 90 days actually worked or one calendar year, which ever comes first.

Your designation from 78 changes to a designation 74. It will be a change they make on the PS form 50 and is 90 calendar days, not actual worked days. It will backdate and you will get annual and sick leave credited. Once the carrier comes back the annual will get paid out in a lump sum unless you go regular. The sick will be banked for a couple years. Contact covers it under 7.1 download the contract and search 'designation 74' and it'll show up.

lovehawkins2003 -- "So where can I find this info [ 90 calendar vs 90 work days to earn annual and sick leave ] to show to postmaster?

-- The info is in the contract's Articles 10 and 30.

-- Now you have the chance to tell the PM: "Here are my references. Please show me yours."

-- Which is likely to go over much better than: "I'll show you mine if you'll show me yours."

Ok so the 91st day would’ve been July 1st. Do I get paid for the holiday? Because my only day off this week is tomorrow the fourth.

Lol ok. Thank you! I’m so thankful for u all on this forum. They would be screwing over a lot of ppl if it weren’t for the knowledgeable ppl here.

I'm in the same boat now, covering for a regular on extended sick leave. My question is, am I still hourly or am I evaluated now?

I had 56 hours last week and looks like another 50 plus this week. If I am evaluated I'm losing out big time. Route eval is only 8.8 hours.

I'm only about 10 days into my 90 days.

This is where subs screw themselves.

Pace yourself. Dont be trying to stay under 40 just to get the "big money". You not only will burn out but will also contribute to the further deterioration of our standards.

You are entitled to work up to route evaluation. Anything over 40 is OT, dig?

Management can pull you off once you reach evaluation, but not before, even if OT is involved.

p.s. 106 hours? You can look forward to a FAT check!

Fat is right! Took a pay cut going regular, less hours of course. HR flagged me 2 pay periods in a row several holidays ago...no direct deposit. They wanted PM confirmation for 170+ hours for 2 weeks. 10 minute lunches and always the POV on a split.

You're still an RCA, you're still hourly, meaning if you go over 40 hours you get paid your actual time ( with the OT, of course), if you stay under, you get paid the evaluation. The only thing that changes is that you earn leave.
