Route inspection before mail count

This will be my first ride along since going Regular.

I have 6 mailbox that is down on my route( customer to lazy to put mailbox back up from the snow storm we had) Will I still get credit for those boxes when I have my route inspection

-- If you take the time to stop and put the mail in the mail box even if it is on the ground, then yes, you should get credit for an "active" mail box.

-- However, whom ever is doing the route inspection may disagree.

-- In that case, take several PS Form 4056's ( Your Mailbox Needs Attention ) on the day of the route inspection. Then whomever is riding with you can sign the form and you can put it in the mail box. Be sure there is wording on the form that "mail will not be delivered until the mailbox is back in place". Or words to that effect.

Have the boxes been down for longer than 90 days? You can count them as active boxes until they have been down for 90 days, then you cannot claim them. If they get put back up by the last day of count, then you can claim them.

having my route inspection today. yesterday, pm said, if there is room tomorrow, i'll ride along the route. i said okay, but what i should have said, was, tomorrow is supposed to be one of my relief days, so i'll be calling in sick...

I heard from both our mgmt. and from our ADR that the scanners were going along because some mgmt. would ride along for ten minutes or so and say the route was observed. The nanny scanner is riding along to prove the mgr. observes the entire route. On my ridealong their scanner requested a SPM at a box while the one I use daily stayed silent. Mgr. just escaped out of scan request...

I was told by a route inspector that they are checking the line of travel. If they are riding along, they are instructing the carriers to drop them off prior to deviations for parcels & Accountables. If they ride behind, they just wait at the deviation or meet at the next stop.

Had my route inspection today. PM brought his scanner along. It didn't ping, and he was told nothing of having to get out for deviations to driveways. He believed the only reason for it was to prove the routes were actually being inspected as HardearnedTan stated above. My route was the first in the office to be inspected - lucky me. If I hear any blow back from my PM that he did something wrong due to the scanner info, I'll post something here.

I guess it's interesting that the USPS not only doesn't trust carriers... but they don't even trust their own mgt peeps... so they have to carry along the nanny scanners also... <img title="Surprised" alt="Surprised" src="https://www.ruralmailtalk.ruralinfo.net/wp-content/sp-resources/forum-smileys/sf-surprised.gif" />

They are riding around in the Jumper seat of the LLV with temps in the teens here. APO LLV routes this week. RMPO's POV next week.

There was 1 issue on mine about placement of a new box. The box sits far off the road in the apex of a 50mph curve of two way traffic. I can service the box safely and be off the blacktop and line of travel of on coming traffic with clear views to merge back into traffic. PM was concerned about box distance from road and merge back abilities. Pulled up the road and doubled back. PM drove into box concern area and realized it was in a good location.

As posted above, to prove route inspections. Here's the loophole for them... Take this scanner for the ride too.
