RRECS scans on parent/child routes

Is there any benefit (or detriment) to performing RRECS scans on the child route? e.g. Let's say your main route is R099 and the child route is R001. I usually change the route in the scanner depending where on the route I am to match the correct zip code, which results in doing the appropriate scans (e.g. TRIP2DOOR) under R001, the child route. Are these being counted correctly for that portion or should all scans be done on the parent route? The "sacred six" are only being done on the parent route (R099) so are the scans done on R001 possibly not being counted?

When I was a sub the regular told me not to switch on our sole parent/child route. Either way, as long as the child route is correctly attached to the parent route it shouldn't matter which one you do the scans under.

I'm not sure what constitutes a "parent/child" exactly, but I serve two zip codes and was told to absolutely switch the routes, my pm even made me cards to scan. FWIW, my evaluation is not too far off what I believe it should be, and since the two routes are about the same size, I'd definitely know if one wasn't being applied towards the eval.

I deliver to 2 different zipcodes and was told by the district "rural expert" back in April 2022 to absolutely not change to intermediate zip, to use head-out office zipcode only. I also originally was provided cards to scan to switch zips which I stopped using in 2022. I have tracked my daily package to door volumes and my scans (including load times at both offices) are being credited to the route. The two zipcodes are similar size. I perform all RECCS scans on intermediate route except clock in/out, depart/return from route and pm casing. Boxholder scans are only used at intermediate if they get one that head-out did not receive.
Talked with union about this in 2022, they couldn't give me a definite answer but I'm comfortable now with what is being credited to route. But I have to watch when delivering foreign pkgs, accountable mail (especially certs) and pkgs that clerk has printed a new scan barcode for on intermediate rt. because the scanner defaults to the head-out office's zip in those circumstances.
Since Unclewolverine and I are following different procedures but coming to same conclusion, seems to not make much difference. Check with the union, they should have an answer for this by now.

I’m in your position and I switch routes on the scanner. My parent is R011 and child R001. I pick up R001 in another office. If I don’t switch, it prompts me if I’m sure with the zip on each scan. We have another route in my parent office which has two zip codes, but it’s all R002. They do not need to switch the scanner. This has been my experience and my evaluation seems to be correct. I’d notice if I was missing about 2/5ths of my data I believe.

Do you have the documents from the district in 2022 where this was addressed for your route. If so please reach out to me
