Based on this release, the Equipment Maintenance Allowance (EMA) for rural carriers will decrease 2.0¢ to 95.0¢ per mile. This EMA rate will be effective April 4, 2026 (Pay Period 09-2026).

EMA needs to be 100% changed in for example, gas prices explode upward, they can adjust EMA. Same said for if gas prices shoot down from $4.50 a gallon to $4.00 a gallon.

Basing it on CPI is stupid especially when that happens and it takes almost 2 months to implement. Things can change and like now our EMA value just went wayyyyy down with gas up 50 cents. All of a sudden we all are losing anywhere from 1 to 3 bucks a day then add on spending another 2 to 5 bucks more a day in gas. That adds up and eats into EMA.
 
How the price fluctuates so quickly is BS, is the gas in the system now, purchased at the higher prices, already ?
 
Gas just went again where I live. I'm pushing close to losing another 20 bucks a week once this goes into effect and depending on what rrecs does to my route, if I lose another hour ill be down 11k in 2 and half years. Just !@#$%ing ridiculous of our union and usps. Especially knowing that if that does happen is i will be making less than when I first went regular 3+ years ago.

in the 1980's..... about .30 ema... local greese monkey was about $100 an hour less... insurance was about 1/4 of what it is now.... i'll stop there
 
All -- Just so typical with anything involving the USPS and the NRLCA!! Gas about a $1 more here than just 2-3 weeks ago. Sorry west-coasters - can't imaging what prices are out there! Can't blame it all on the goings on in and around the Persian Gulf. Refineries have storage tanks and there are numerous ( like thousands ) of tankers on the high seas at any given time. And the government shut down has little traction -- except those who have to fly for business. But never fear as the rural carriers will carry on to get the mail delivered - as always.

With almost all merchants that sell gasoline, they do not pay for the gas upfront. The fuel is "fronted" to them and they are billed / charged later. The merchants have the responsibility to "keep up" with the market. Much like the stock market , this can and does change daily. This is why at one store their gas is 10 cents more than the store across the street. The "cheaper" store hasn't updated their price. This is why it is common to see prices go up / down literally overnight even when nothing is going on.
 
There are people who will quit over this. You can't expect people to operate the own vehicles with current inflation and price increases and pay them less to do it! Maybe they think the COLA will help, mine just increased my pay by .09 cents an hour (n)

Like the stock market, it seems changes always happen in one direction much more quickly than the other... Stock market drops of 1000 points are much more common than gains of that magnitude... likewise gas prices seem to rise much more quickly than they fall ... 🤔 🤷‍♂️👉:oops:🤯
 
Gas is up almost .50 gallon where I live..I think they have certain times of the year and they increase 6 months..then they decrease in 6 months...I dont think they do a national average at all they just rotate up and down. Our hc carriers get $4.50 a mile! That covers them for the term of their contract.
